Puppy cant breath through nose...vet say's he will be fine.? |
Our dog had her puppies on her due date (today) they are 8 hours old now. The first 3 puppies are doing great but the last puppy (also the runt of the litter) is not breathing through his nose at all. I called the vet who talked me through how to wife his snout and how to "swing him" to help clear his airway...I did so and it didn't help. My mom is a vet assistant, she came over and said because the puppy is so cold and weak and getting worse instead of better it might an internal defect in his nose. He can't nurse because he can't breathe at the same time. I called the vet back and told him that and he said if thats the case there is not a whole lot I can do. The puppy opens it's mouth for every breath of air...I can tell he is getting weaker....is there anything I can do for the puppy? oh yeah forgot to mention, the vet says if it's not an internal defect that puppies sometimes struggle at first especially last borns and most of the time they will be fine. For some reason I don't buy that and think he's just trying to get out of coming into the office on an emergency call. your vet sounds lazy. what i would do is get some of the mom's milk in a small bottle, and feed it to him. every 3 seconds or so, take the bottle from his mouth so he can breathe. it will be hectic, but if you want to help it that is what you have to do. but your vet couldn't have totally been lying, so maybe the puppy will be fine. make sure to keep it warm, right now that is the key. if the puppy makes through the night then it will most likely be ok. also make ure to get your dog spade after the puppies are weined. well if it is an internal problem then the vet is the only one who can help.and so sad for the puppy your vet is especially wrong because that puppy can die any second put him in front of the heater not too close but enough to feel the warmth from it then every now and then breathe into his mouth and try to help the little guy if he still is like that the can't breathe too much thing then give him over to his mother and see what she can do and then if he looks hungry put some DOG milk into a feeding bottle and feed it do him if the problem of breathing does not subside then take him to a vet good luck and merry Christmas Didn't your vet tell you to bring him in? That pup needs the mom's colostrum in order to survive! The vet can at least feed him so he can live. I'd honestly call another vet or emergency clinic and see what they have to say. Don't let this pup go another minute without milk. You can buy something called "First Born" which contains colostrom, but please ask a vet first. You can try to take a baby aspirator and suck some of the mucus out of the nose...other than that I really don't know what else to suggest other than calling another vet. i think your vet is being lazy, not being able to breathe through the nose isnt very normal. try switching your vet and maybe you cant get a real actual result. |
