Broken middle toe... Should I go to work?

So, this morning, I broke my middle toe. I actually somehow managed to snap it almost all the way back to my foot, so it is deeply brused about halfway down my foot. The two adjacent toes are also pretty bruised and sore. I went to work today, but I was in a lot of pain. I'm an orthodontic assistant, which is very fast-paced work (we see appx. 90 patients/day). At lunch I went to my mom's (medical) office, and the nurse taped the three toes together, and told me to try to stay off of it and do ice packs when I got home. My question is, should I work tomorrow or not? I kinda feel like a baby calling in for a broken toe, but I don't want to compromise my healing or anything. The bruising is pretty bad, and my toe(s) are significantly swollen. What's your take?

I feel guilty calling in, because there are only 4 assistants, and we each see around 22 patients a day, if one person is gone...it gets very hectic & stressful trying to pick up the slack. I've been on the other end, and while I understood and assistant calling in, it still sucks.

If ur toes feel better in the morning then go to work.
But if it's still hurting in the morning then don't go.
So can u walk on ur feet and toes, Is it hard to do that?
if it is just stay home and relax.

Yes, stay home for a day with your feet up.

If it hurts that bad take off. Why go to work if your in pain?

Go to work. Tell & show your Ortho of your problem, maybe he'll let you do reception or billing or whatever else that doesn't require you to be on your tippy-toes all day.

Call out sick. Your toes will swell more if you don't stay off your feet.
:)
Did you get an X-ray? maybe it's worse than you think.

Go to work. Take something for the pain throughout the day. Explain to your orthodonist, what happened, and he will probably allow you to prop your foot up. In addition, tape an ice pack to it, and take an old pair of shoes and cut the toes out of the affected foot.

I would stay home. You are not being a baby. I have broken toes before and it hurts! Stay home one day, keep your foot elevated and take it easy.

When I was younger my sister dropped a crock pot on my toe and broke it..It hurt for a while but I knew there wasn't much I could do to help it heal..My advice would be take some ibuprofen and ice it tonight..See how you feel in the morning..

take a pain killer than go to work. at dr.humphrey she has about 20 assistants plus 2 ppl @ front desk.
