Can you believe my Employers???

They laid off our med. records dept (8 people) & hired an outside svc to finish off their jobs because we are advancing to Electronic Medical Records. The staff were laid off first thing in the AM. Then the rest of us (Adminstrative, Fr. Desk, Registration, Referrals, Billing, Nurses' stations, medical assistants (x14), & others) were called in to the Conference Room. We did not know was was going on. They (Administrator and V-Chairmain) ordered us all pizza. We thought something good was going to come out of this. Instead, they informed us that our friends in Med Records were let go. I was in tears. I thought this pizza festival was a slap in the face. The holidays are coming & they're all unemployed now w/ families in tow.

How could they be so insensitive to give us a "lunch party" & make such a horrific announcement. I think things would have been much better off just unannounced. I felt like they were throwing confetti @ a funeral.

Does this sound normal?

This is the result of "Business men" running the place vs. Doctors. The bottom line is all they care about. If it's any consolation, it's all over. I work for a contracting company now. The hiring company has us training a company in India to take over our work (and jobs). My last company, a Fortune 500 company, trained it's management for a week on how to call us to the conference room, not look at us while announcing our job was cut. After 37 years, no thanks, it was a pleasure working with you, sorry.. nothing. The manager walked out after saying this HR person will explain.

Just business. They wanted to let you know that "anyone" is replaceable. (and they did it). It really is "just" business. Just be thankful YOU still have your job. I'm quite sure they have some kind of severance pay coming to them.

its a sad sign of the times i'm afraid but it happens a lot i worked in a bank call centre and we were made redundant but before we left we had to train the people from india where our jobs were moved to

Sadly this is the real world and it happens everyday. We are all replaceable. My company seems to do this every year just after Christmas to the temp workers who probably are already broke due to the holidays. They were just putting in there time in hopes of going permanent. Im not sure a pizza was nesessary.

That is really sad. When I was 19 I worked for a very well known mobile home builder. Two days before Thanksgiving I noticed an extra $800 in my checking account from my employer. I told a friend of mine and my boss. My boss acted dumb of course and my friend knew something was wrong. Two hrs later about 30 of us were called in to a conference room and asked to gather our belongings and say our good byes.

We went back to our desks and their were already people from our home office grabbing files from our desk. Funny how less than a yr later the entire company shut down, nationwide. Companies who decide to out source to India and other countries are just hurting their profit. Dell for example...

As for your company...real shady...just remember what goes around comes around!

Outsourcing is the norm now in the US and that is what happened to your Med Records Dept. Sad to say, but it's just the way of business now.

Real question is, where was the work outsourced to? and who is gaining access to the medical records? That's the scary thing.
