Playing the Social Security Game? |
My husband has been out of work for a little over a year , he is on very strong pain meds and will be having back surgery. He also has an aortic aneurysm and a few other things. He has seen a medical doctor and three orto doctors who all say that he , even with surgery will not work again. He gets a small disability check thru his employer. However , when he applied for Social Security he was denied. According to the letter, although is is deemed disabled by his physicians, there team of medical professionals has determined he is not disabled. Are they telling me that 4 very fine doctors are wrong. And their team of professionals consists of nurses and physicians assistants. We now have a lawyer who says it is a waiting game. They do this to push people to give up and go back to work or hope that the terminally ill will die before they have to pay out. This is so wrong. My husband has worked 40 years and never asked for help, he has paid for this benefit many years. Any thoughts? when you apply for SS they almost always deny you the first time get an appeal and re-apply i was in this situation back in 1999 i was denied and i appealed i went in front of a judge and won my case i did not get a lawyer because i was not sharing any of my money should i win my case with SS what was the lawyer going to tell the judge that i could not have told him personally this took me from beginning to end about 1 1/2 years while waiting i had to turn to my local human services for me and my daughter good luck in what ever you choose to do and i hope you and your will feel better soon try to always think positive and happy new year get a lawyer. My husband is going through the same thing. He had surgery on his neck and the pain is even worse and he is on oxycontin. He was turned down twice and he is currently waiting to go before the administrative law judge. It's been 13 months and we are still waiting. My husband also worked his entire life. I think its common that they knock people back, but I believe you can appeal their decision, if you feel they have not treated your hubby fairly, or not read his medical reports etc correctly. |
