Am I alone here? My friend told me today that the sight of a baby being born is disgusting!?

I think it is beautiful and amazing. I worked as an Assistant nurse ina maternitiy unit for 2 years and found birth amazing and awe inspiring. Yes it was yicky with lots of blood etc but still made me cry each time. Sometimes the result was horrible and sad but in the main wonderful and tearworthy. What do you think?

Sorry, but I'm going to go with your friend on this one.

Sure, childbirth is a natural process. So is defecating. So is dying. I wouldn't want to stand there and gawk while people do any of these things.

pretty amazing but can put you off sex for a while

I THINK THE WHOLE CONCEPTION ,PREGNANCY AND BIRTH AMAZES ME SO MUCH AND TO ACTUALLY SEE A LIFE BEING BORN IS TRULY AMAZING !!!!

I'm with you.....a new life emerging is always tremendous. Your friend sounds a little closed minded.

I'll bet your friend hasn't had kids or witnessed the process 1st hand has she. I've had 3 kids and witnessed the birth of my nephew and it is a world changing moment. It is one of those things that makes every little thing insignificant. Yes it is gory and unpleasant but look at the result! And of course it is the most natural thing to man, to give birth. The thoughts on pregnancy are changing for the worse unfortunately, many women opting for a C-Section, if there is no medical reason for having one why do they? to not have the pain?To posh to push? Whats a few hours of pain and gore when the result is a loving companion and friend for life!

the birth of a baby is truly amazing, though i was asleep for the first one(ceaserian)and knackered by the time the second one finally put in an appearance(emergency ceaserian again)

I've watched all of mine and it's great... it builds the bond for a dad too...

it is amazing but disgusting too. So is any surgery, for example. isn't it a miracle how people tear open a chest and put tubes into a beating heart, etc? I mean it, it is so admirable, but not many people can stand to watch it. People are naturally shocked with blood, tearing fleshes, and so on, because otherwise they wouldn't avoid it enough to protect themselves!

IT ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY TO SEE A BABY BEING BORN BUT YEAH HONESTLY IT IS KINDA DISGUSTING IF YOU DON'T LIKE BLOOD AND SOMETIMES POOP

Some people find birth is gross, sometimes it can be, some are different than other's, but it's the same with the sight of blood, some don't mind it other's do, or with surgery, some can't sit down and watch any procedure done, and other's aren't bothered by it.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of it, but afterwards it's very rewarding, but the whole process isn't a pretty picture.. LoL

Watching my son being born was one of the most amazing things I have even witnessed. I was so happy he was healthy I started to cry. How could anyone think watching a child being born was disgusting???. It was beautiful. If you are a parent I don't think you could say that it was anything but beautiful.

i think child birth is the most amazing and natural thing you will ever watch!

probably if i saw osama bin laden born then yes, an ugly site. otherwise i imagine magical

Of course it's disgusting. You've said it in your question: "yicky with lots of blood etc." I'm not saying that good things don't come out of it, but that doesn't stop it being disgusting.

I mean the woman normally poos on the birthing table!

There are some sad attitudes out there... I know a lot of mother who bottle fed because breast feeding was "unatural"...

lol i wouldnt really know..the only time isaw birth actually disgusted me but...um well it was in sex ed.. n we were watching a movie and i was drawing n the only timei looked up to see the tv. i saw the perfect view of birth. i jumped and fell out of my seat...... . . . .i hate sex ed...

I'm with you on that. I was an OB nurse for a number of years. Even as a nurse, I can still say it is a miraculous experience.

I was there when my godson was born. I thought it would be nasty to see, but I was totally floored. It was amazing. Only gross part was the placenta. I coulda lived without seeing that.

totally agree with you i was present at my sisters birth 7 yrs ago and it was fantastic cant say my own sons birth was so awe inspiring but i was a bit worse fr wear after all the pain relief

A woman giving birth is a blessing rather it's wanted or not. there are so many in the world who wish they could but they can't. Anyway mayb one day your friend will grow up and see that it's a miracle that some women bodies can do.

The most amazing and beautiful thing i seen was my two children being born,i cried my eyes out with happiness.

its fantastic watching a baby being born i saw my 2 nieces being born and i cried both times !!!!

I've had two kids and have seen my niece being born...I could have done with out seeing it. I guess it wasn't so much disgusting as it was a reminder of how painful child birth was. As opposed to the being amazing and awe inspiring, seeing my children alive and healthy everyday, is awe inspiring. Seeing my niece turn 6 after having a liver transplant at 1y/o...that's amazing.

Some people just see the blood and gore and consider it gross. Some people - like you - can see the whole picture and understand the beauty of it.

That said, it's not something I want to watch over my morning coffee, but it's a great event.

I think it is amazing but I never cried the second the babies were born. It took me time to bond with the babies. I guess when you get the baby it didn't seem real to me. I love having my babies. the placenta looks pretty gross and I hear that some women actually poo on the table but other than that it wasn't like horribly gross. Mucus plug... that looks pretty sick too but who doesn't love the baby or the smell of a newborn right?

I think you are right, it's not so much the birth of a baby, more the birth of a new life.
I think it is the most amazing thing.

When I had my daughter it was the most amazing experience I have ever been through, it was after she was born was when my trouble started BUT yes you're right.

Without judging anyone, I haven't understood why so many women scream and make so much noise when having a child. I worked through my pain WITH my child, I had no pain relief or Gas and Air, I wanted to feel everything. AND BOY I DID!!!

Unfortunately the chance of me having another child is very slim so I think about my daughters birthday, everyday.

i watched all my grandkids being born and it,s an amazing thing, i even delivered one of them.

Yes it is beautiful, I think how you see it is all a matter of maturity. It is what it is. A miracle!!!

I don't think it is disgusting. I think it is the most beautiful sight someone can see. Being able to give birth is a gift from God and it is a wonderful experience. For some people it may not be what they want to see on a regular basis and for people who do not want to have children it may be gross but It is a wonderful experience to have someone share with you

i told my ex fiancee after i gave birth to our son that if it had been him on the table giving birth i would have sat in the waiting room. sorry.

One day your friend may have a child of their own.....now wouldn't that be amazing!!!
