HELP i have epilepsy i can't find employment anywhere, can you help?

may this year i was made compulsary redundant. i have tried for various jobs from assistant nurse to shop cleaner, i know its against the law to discriminate but this is what's happening to me but i cant prove it, no one is prepared to take me on. i want to work any suggestions of where i can get help. Has anyone out there come across this problem?

What qualifications do you have?

you can get disbilitie. i have friend that did ,but it was hard. good luck.......sissy

try photography maybe?? oh oops sorry

I can understand you are unable to work so please try
to get disability. I had a friend who had epilepsy and
it became so bad that she was unable to work and
she finally applied for disability.
Good Luck and Blessings.

try a government position - when they reject you, allege discrimination to another government body that processes such claims - you may even receive compensation for your rejection

I don't think it has anything to do with epilepsy. Do you know how many people suffer from it and work. My brother is a teacher of handycapped. My sister-in-law is a waitress, my friend works at asda. Maybe you are going for the wrong jobs

Why dont you try your local citizens advice and speak to them, then try your local job centre. try to get job seekers and disability allowence to keep you going til you find a job. why dont you try a job that allows you to stay at home and use your PC and telephone? keep trying, there are jobs out there for everyone. good luck.

my husband was diagnosed with epilepsy 7 years ago and he cant get work, then we have people calling us scroungers but we both worked full time all our lives and brought 3 boys up, but good luck , my husband was an HGV driver and is 49 it could be his age.

I don't believe you're required to tell them you have epilepsy unless it would make you unable to properly perform the required work. So don't bother applying to be an astronaut (I checked years ago). However, unless you are constantly having seizures there is no reason you can't do most jobs. If they ask if you have a medical condition preventing you from working, and you honestly believe it wouldn't affect your work, just say no. I would not mention it during an interview, but don't lie on any forms you have to fill out. If they push the issue or try to back out, call them on it. You could even get a form signed by your doctor.

I know in most states you have to go six months without having a seizure to get a license. In my opinion, if the government says after six months you're OK enough to control a several ton vehicle at 65mph, who's to say you can't do just about anything a "normal" person would do?

The problem is that.. YES you are required to tell your employers of any possible hazards that you might post towards other employees. If you pose a possible risk towards anyone else they can claim that it was in the best inerest of the company and employees that they did not hire you. It is a cowards way out, ut its what they are gonna do. You can try to get a job like as a secratary or something with out alot of physical stress or flashing lights... that would be the best thing.

Go to the citizen advice bureo and see what help they can get you as regards employment and benefits.
