Why are some people upset about the US Conference of Bishops' voting guide?

People fool themselves if they believe we will not have to answer before God if we vote for an abortionist candidate.

Further, the first amendment shows we have the right of free exercise of religion. If aspects of that religion entail following the advice of our church elders, there should be no legal problem.

A ranking of who is held culpable in abortion from most to least:

The doctor/midwife who performs
the nurses/assistants/anesthesiologist
the pro-abortion politicians/NGOs
the people that vote/support them

The victims of abortion:
the mother
the child

And none of this "render unto ceaser" crap; that's taxes only...

I have a problem with people like you who don;t actually know CST and what Call to Faithful CItizenship is.
Why are you fooling yourself that Call to Faithful citizenship is all about abortion?

Catholics are to take ALL the social teachings equally.
All the sanctity of life issues equally which includes the death penalty, war, euthenasia. And well as dignity of the person living wage, immigration. ALL of the Social teachings are equal and we are to find the candidate that encompasses the most teachings, since none encompass all.

To look for the one that encompasses the most, say you voted for a "pro-life" candidate who supported war, euthenasia the death penalty. Against raising min. wage, and had unjust immigration stance YOU would be a single issue voter which we are called directly not to be. YOu would be violating Call to Faithful Citizenship. YOU would be violating Catholic Social Teaching and YOU would be a fool to think you would not have to answer to God for it.

And Call to Faithful Citizenship has been around every national election cycle (2 years) since 1976 why are people just noticing it now?

So your anti-abortion stance is your way of being able justify voting for someone that turns their back on other teachings besides one. That supports war and torture unfair immigration laws, death penalty, you are the one that is sick AND not CATHOLIC. Report It

My problem with it is that having a large religious entity command it's followers to vote for our national leader based soley on their religious views is harmful for our nation. People should be voting based on which candidate can best serve this country's needs at this time and over the next four years, not according to which church they attend. Furthermore, there are more pressing issues right now in the US than abortion, stem-cell research and same-sex marriages. Perhaps people should take more responsibility for their role in the way this nation is run.

Because the US Bishops are trying to replace the US Constitution with the laws of a foreign country, Italy, where Catholic priests and nuns can legally abuse American children.

America was founded on the idea of freedom of religions, never a state religion ever especially a foreign state religion where child abuse is legal (aka the Roman Church).

God gave the gift of freedom to choose your path; everyone has to answer for their choice; I am not going to impose my will on someone else; I am all for taking precaution and not killing b/c of the carelessness and poor planning of someone; most people regret the decision down the road; I look at my 4 children and knowing them, I can't ever imagine me aborting any of them; they are too precious and kind and have enriched my life; some people like in the past, will seek backdoor methods at their risk; we can only hope that these numbers decrease to none and people take better care to not get pregnant if they don't want a child. It is an equal burden on the man and female.

I think some people are mistaken that the voter's guide tells people the specific laws to support or candidates to vote for. it does not. It merely states the Catholic Church's stand on all social issues from abortion to welfare and gives the candidates views on each topic.

There are about 40 issues in the voters guide and a person should consider all of the issues in deciding which candidate to vote for.

The Faithful Citizenship statement concludes with a 鈥渃all for a renewed kind of politics:
o Focused more on moral principles than on the latest polls;
o Focused more on the needs of the weak than on benefits for the strong;
o Focused more on the pursuit of the common good than on the demands of narrow interests.
