How i can find a job like care assistant locally? |
now I am living in RM10 ,send my application form to some try your local County Council Social Services Office. This will cover not only Care Homes but Home Caring as well. I have sadly just recently left Derbyshire County Council as a Home Carer for a Crisis Team the best job I've ever had. (was a Secretary PA before that for 26 years). The County Council will provide extensive training prior to you 'being let loose' on the job, they might also pay you through your NVQ. Social Services cover a whole spectrum of caring roles to include children/adults with specialist needs, elderly and their associated illnesses/conditions, terminally ill etc etc. The choices are awesome if you are a caring dedicated person. I have to say though that the pay scale might not always reflect truly against what could be deemed as unsociable hours (particularly in home caring) You could be expected to work early morning and teatime/evening hours which obviously affects any kind of social activities. However, the plus side is the knowledge that you are providing some (sadly in some instances the only) level of support and assistance to both service users and their families and hopefully promoting the individual(s) to independence. This can be just as, if not more, rewarding than your payslip. Please excuse my arrogance when I say that you do need to be a special kind of person to do this kind of work but I was proud to wear my badge on what some people viewed as a menial job. Your local County Council Web Site should also provide you with extensive information in jobs, expected criteria and training opportunities. The other plus is the huge opportunities for promotion and progression if you are so inclined-during my training many trainers and senior staff revealed they started off as Home Care Assistants. I wish you every success in your career move.. they will keep your details on file, and should you be the right candidate for any vacant positions, they will contact you. Go to the job centre, or ring local ads or agencies. Go into the nursing homes and ask if they have vancancies, they usually do, most are understaffed. Join a local agency or get in touch with an employment agency, the pay is usually better than if you work directly in a care home. To be honest, these days you have to have a NVQ level 2, to do any sort of care work, other wise by law they will not be able to take you on-some places will let you work while you are studying to get a quaification and you may have to pay for this. Specialist social care agencies will take you on without the qualification but you have to have experience in the social care field and working towards this. Plan Personnel, Morgan Hunt and Central care are good reputable agencies. |
