Can you pass medication if your not a nurse, but if your a nurse assistant in a rehab facility? |
Can you pass medication if your not a nurse, but if your a nurse assistant in a rehab facility? As a CNA, no, you cannot administer medications. Some long-term care facilities do have Medication Technicians. They are required to take courses and pass an exam, then will need on the job training. They work alongside a Nurse when dispensing medications. I'm unsure as to how long the courses are. I am hopeful that this is not what Nurses are asking you to do. If so, simply refuse and, tell them that you are not trained to perform this task. After all, your CNA license can be revoked. It's not worth putting yourself in jeopardy. I hope that this is helpful. No. It is against the law to pass medications if you are not trained to do so and have not had and passed a medication class. Absolutely not. Not even if an RN or an LVN tell you to. If that happens tell them you cannot do this and if necessary go over their heads. It is unlikely that that would happen but you are asking for some reason. If you are a CNA your license can and probably will be pulled PERMANENTLY! You have to take a course to become a medication aide and it is not an easy course. |
