Why are CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants)under appreciated?

For the same reason LPN's, RN's, RT's, MD's, & everyone else are. It makes people feel better if they whine about being underappreciated. Go grab a tissue & get over it.

try being a police officer lmao

CNA's are an important part of the care team. They are the ones who have the most intimate contact with the patients, often being the ones who find skin abnormalities, they are better at knowing the patients on a more personal level, therefore often recognize first when a patient is becoming depressed, stressed, etc. Management is aware of this, but at the same time, there is such a big turn over. Management is always seeing new faces and always having to arrange for new ones to be trained. It also does not help that a person can be hired for this job so young that some of them are still attending highschool. The turn over rate is one reason why (a big reason, actually) the Nursing Assistants are not offered as big of a benefit package...or a comparible pay rate...as the Nurses. And, even though there are some unbeatable CNA's out there who deserve so much more than what they receive, let's face it...a lot of them do continually gripe about how bad their job sucks, and rarely have anything good to say about it. They may think this doesn't get back to management, but it most always does. If not their exact words, at least their attitude will. I must say again that there are some Nurse Aides who are exceptional, and make everyone's life easier at work. But when wondering why CNA's are under appreciated, i have to say...just pay attention and you'll see why.

I believe that it has to do with where the credit goes when things go well. As a c.n.a., you are directly in contact with the patient, all the time. R.N.s are in the position of talking and dealing with the families of the patients. Alot of men and women that participate in a nursing-home setting, would love to be able to thank you from the bottom of their hearts. As you well know, a lot of them cannot convey their thanks by telling you, or paying you more. If you are a c.n.a., please do not give up hope. You are appreciated. I have respect for those who choose to dedicate their lives to the service of those who cannot serve themselves. A c.n.a.s job is no less important than any other. Look into the eyes of your patients. Ask yourself what you see. Next, look into the mirror and witness what you have become. Hope ,Patience, Compassion, Bravery, understanding, faithfulness, dedication. Most of society does not exhibit, or demonstrate this behavior!!.............CNAs Do!.. Have a nice day!
