What is a nursing assistants job on family visits?

What is a nursing assistants job on family visits?

Usually a Nurses Aid is only in your home for an hour. they Usually help assist the patient with their baths or shower and personal care. then it is there job to clean the bath room and make the patients bed, take bp, and temp. and then leave. It really depends on how many hour's she is hired for. If a family hire the NA. then they will tell her what they expect from her.If the family hires them, then they will be expected to do more like cooking meals, feeding giving meds,if they are bed ridden then they must be turned but most of all. treat each patient as you would want treated. with respect. but normally her only duties is to make sure the patient is tended to as needed.
If the state hires you It is a Certified Personal Assistant that will take the patient grocery shopping or to doctor visits. or clean there house.give baths. they actually do the same a an aid. but really are usually their in the home with the family a lot longer than an NA or CNA, I have had my CPA for five years now, A companion is just what it means. a friend. someone to be with you. to do things for and with you. nothing else.
And you might want to check within your state. cause it varies from state to state to what and how much an NA, CNA and CPA is allowed to do.

assist the nurse..

The nursing assistant who does home visits (I'm assuming that is what your question means) helps the patient in many ways. She/he may bathe the patient, do other personal care, help with homemaking, cooking, take the patient shopping, run errands, and be a companion to the patient.

If I misunderstood your question, perhaps you can explain it a little more.

I am a home health nurse, and agree with the response given by calliope. Depending on the payor source, the nurse's assistant can be in the home for an hour or so of personal care, or they can be there for a few hours at a time to assist the patient with personal and household activities. If the assistant is hired by the family, or is paid for by Medicaid, they will stay as many hours as required and perform many activities other than bathing.

Some nurse's assistants cook meals for the patient, do patient laundry, make sure the home is safe and clean, pick up medications for the patient, etc.. The NA will do whatever is permitted by the payor source.

i'm assuming you mean home health care in a patien't home.
first and foremost, to assist the patient. it is also your job to be an advocate for the patient in case they cannot fight for themselves. look around. are they in a clean, healthy environment? are they treated well by family members?
secondly, it is your job to be there for the families. you may not think it is important for 'grandma's' hair to be combed before lunch when they are sitting in their own living room or kitchen, or even in their own bed, but it is an issue of dignity. maybe that was important to the person or to the family before they needed care. good luck
