well here in ireland im working as a care assistant which i think is the same thing. we help washing patients and feeding them, we do the laundry and dinners too and help with patient toileting and all. the pay is good in euro its 12.50 an hr mon-fri, 13.50 sat and 15 on sundays! i think its good but thats cuz im a student!

When I worked as a CNA in a hospital my day usually went like this :

7-8:30 AM - Take vital signs and blood sugars on all patients
8:30-11 AM - feed, bathe and toilet patients
11:00-12:30 - take another set of vital signs and blood sugars
12:30-1 - lunch
1:00-3:30 - empty all foley catheters, help with patient discharge

Most of the time you are answering call bells as well, for example the patient will call for the nurse, call for food/drink, call for assistance to bathroom/bedpan. You are also there to help the nurses with whatever they need - i/e/ moving patients, collecting specimens etc.

A LVN isnt really used in the hospital, they are more in homecare settings and nursing homes/rehabs - they are nurses so they mostly administer meds and treatments.

My base pay is $13 in Boston, with a $1.75 per hour extra on weekends and after 3 pm and $2.50 extra for nights. So, ideally you could be making $17.25/hr on a weekend evening shift. Also, there is always extra shifts available for overtime. Working every weekend, mostly day shifts I was netting about $1250 a month with no overtime and full health/disability and dental benefits.
