Nursery nurse assistant working with kids age 0-3???

im starting a childcare apprenticeship as a nursery nurse assistant and will be working with 0-3 year olds im just wondering what i will be expected to do..i love babies i just get a bit worried what if i dont know what im doing..and do something wrong..its a big deal especialy with young ones..

NEVER do anything you are uncomfortable with, remind yourself daily you are an apprentice not fully qualified, it is up to the staff to make sure the children are happy and well looked after. good luck xxxxx

Don't worry you'll be supervised in all aspects of the job so that you are confident in what you are doing before being left to carry out duties on your own.Its a great job and really rewarding so you'll love it I'm sure...don't be nervous, just look forward to having loads of fun!

I agree completely with Lou. If your are interested, you might want to go to a bookstore and pick up a book on infant/baby child development. It will list what a "normal" child would be able to do at each age of development. This way you will know a little of what to expect.

Hi,

First of all don't panic! You will have a Room Coordinator or a supervisor who will show you the ropes and may get you shadowing another member of staff for a while so that you can pick up things quicker.

Most nursery nurse assistants do very similar jobs as a nursery nurse but your job is to help them in their role. If you working solely with the babies it will be learning how to do bottle feeds, place them down for naps, nappy changes etc.

With the older ones it will be helping to toilet them, feed them, plan activities etc and supervise them correctly.

You have the opportunity to ask questions throughout and can just state it when you are unhappy with any aspect of your life.

It is great and rewarding job but be prepared for getting sick and poo on your clothes and it being noisy!

I loved working as a Nursery Nurse and a Childminder. I am now a Learning Support Assistant for kids with special needs and love it!

Good luck!

I have never worked as a nursery nurse, but i am a mum of 2 kids. I would say that the most important thing is not to try to hard, just be natural around them, and if you are unsure of anything, then ask your supervisor/boss and never feel embarassed to ask anything, thats what they are there for.

Good luck, after a few weeks you will feel right at home!

Don't worry yourself, you won't be left on your own at first. Your manager will explain everything and you will be paired up with an experienced nursery nurse. If you are unsure of something then make sure you ask, that is important to remember. At first you will be expected to do small things to get you used to working with children such as setting up a work area, eg an art activity. When I started out I spent so much time doing art with the children that I learnt all of their names quickly and their abilities.

The first few days will be nurvous but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine:)
