Whats the differnce between nursing and medical assistant?

Whats the differnce between nursing and medical assistant?

A Medical Assistant is trained to work in an office setting. You learn to give injections, draw blood, assist the doctor, etc. and you also learn insurance billing, transcription, filing and other clerical duties. In nursing you learn patient care, whether in a clinic, hospital or skilled nursing facility. Nursing is more focused training.

Although both are very rewarding careers in the health care industry, medical assistants scope of practice is quite different from the nurse's. For one, medical assistants are generalists usually found in medical offices, rarely hospitals. They perform clinical and administrative, as well as technical support duties in the back and front offices. However, they must do everything under the direct supervision of a medical doctor, or other licensed health care practitioner, such as a RN, or PA.
