How long is a Nursing Assistant Certification good for in NYS?

I have been a CNA since March 2003 and in the hospital that I work at they dont renew your certification. I was wondering b.c i forgot how long are they good for and what can i do to get it extended.

Im a CNA in Indiana and your employer has to renew your certification every year to keep it current, you also have to work at least 1 8hr shift as an aide and attend inservices to keep it current. The health departments number is listed on your certification and they can tell you your status. But my bet is that its already lapsed
