Certified nursing assistant classes?

Certified nursing assistant classes?

look in the classified ads, CNAs are in high demand right now. They don't pay that well at first when your registered, but after you become certified (takes about 2 mos.) you get a raise. The CNA class I took was only 3 weeks, the first two weeks were lecture and instruction, CPR training, and the last week was clinicals (we got paid for ours). The facility I took it at also paid for the CNA test and the course, they were DESPERATE for aids, so they basically take anyone who's over 18, has a diploma, and passes their backround check.

I keep asking myself why I would want a CNA certificate? I have worked as such as an independent caregiver the past ten years and also I have worked in the field of disabilities for over thirty years. My answer is that I a a good and experienced caregiver. A CNA is not required when working privately, but recommended. If you work as a Caregiver in a facility it is required, but the facility will often pay for you to take the classes. There is some hands on training and you need other certificates as well to pass a CNA. Once you are, consider yourself the equivalent of a babysitter who cannot draw overtime in a private residence appointment. You may work long and difficult hours for little pay. My last job was a once a week seventy two hour shift - and there was not much time to sleep and I was alone with my client out in the middle of nowhere alone. The pay over-all for that job was less then minimum wage. I do the work because I can and many cannot.
It might take you a month, six weeks or one quarter to complete a CNA college course and take the test, check around. Some classes may be on line learning, some will require hands on experience.
