Certified nursing assistant- is this job right for me? |
i attended a cna class interview today. i was doing really well thought it's what i wanna go into. i think the pay is great. i was excited about the class then the MOMENT they said you can be exposed to infectous diseases i just about fell on the floor (i did not show it) but boy did i feel and think it. all of a sudden i felt cramped, kinda like a phobia or clostrophobic. but i was fine. i just dont understand the meaning behind that...i work for a hospital in the cafeteria so im never around patients, however i know i can do the cna job im just SCARED about infectous diseases and getting something from a patient. this cna position would be at a nursing home. how can i find out for SURE if this is something i CAN handle? if theres infectuous diseases...well jeez theres millions of cna and nurses around the world. i need a better explanation and ti know what u do to prevent this stuff....just hearing exposure to infectuous diseases freaks me out. i never thought about it before.... I have worked in the nursing profession for 23 years, if you take the proper steps for protecting yourself, ie washing your hands, wearing gloves, always take extra procaution when blood is involved you will be fine. It takes a certian type of person to work in a nursing home, so dont expect the job to be easy it is hard work and some times long hours. You dont have to be in a setting like a nursing home to get a infectious disease just take a good look around the world. That is not something most people would ask for. use universal precautions like handwashing gloves gowns masks, im not sure why you were floored by being told you can catch something, i mean you'll be getting pretty close and personal with sick people. not sure if that kinda work is best suited for squemish people. Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. To help prevent the spread of disease you wear gloves when you wash up a patient or when a patient has something like shingles or an infected wound or pneumonia. You wash your hands after each patient you care for and when you carry dirty laundry you hold it away from your body. If you have a cough then you will wear a mask so you don't get the residents sick. If they have something that requires isolation there will be a table or cabinet outside the door with mask, gloves and paper gowns for you to wear and a special bin to put them in as well as special cleanser at the sink. Hope this helps. |
