Help me understand the healthcare system; why don't we have a single payer or not-for-profit healthcare yet?

Kucinich was the only candidate that supported not-for-profit health care. He couldn't get the votes, and dropped out. I guess the country is sadly not ready. I feel like an alien in my own country. People must be pretty fooled and convinced by the health care patches that others propose. Better than nothing, I guess. But I'm really disappointed about it, and I truly don't understand how people don't see how corrupt the current for-profit health care system is. Even the Nurses Association is for it. Please explain the negatives of not-for-profit health care? Also, any references supporting this movement would be helpful.

I think that Hillary and Obama are just looking to make sure we all have insurance... in other words, they are selling us insurance and want to make it a requirement for us. It's a terrible patch that will fail. I make 100k a year, and HALF is taken out in taxes. Don't we deserve single payer, not-for-profit quality and free care?!

Because it's a monopoly.

Physicians, hospitals, nurses, etc. should be able to get competitive reimbursement for their services. If they don't like what the government wants to pay them, they have no recourse unless they unionize. And strike.

Actually Ron Paul supports not-for-profit health care. Because there are many in Texas. There are charity hospitals which don't charge you and they give pretty good health care.

Since the government got involved in health care in the 50s the health care system went downhill.

Social capitalism refers to the form of capitalism that has developed in much of central and Western Europe. It is also called 鈥?Stake Holder鈥?capitalism. It has adopted in various forms in Germany, Austria, and the Benelux countries, Sweden, France and much of Scandinavia. Fredric List who is German theorists in early 19 century, outlined the principle of 鈥?zollverein鈥?which is established 1934. He maintained that the state intervention should be used to protect infant industries from the rigours of foreign competition. The central theme of this model is the idea of a social market, which needs for social cohesion and solidarity. There are always long term economic investment rather than short term. ts aim to establish social welfare state. So, it is called mix economy.
In this system, labor union is essential. So, it is called 鈥?stake holders鈥?capitalism. They aim to protect social welfare state. For example, in Germany, Business organization in what has been called Rhine-Alpine capitalism is different from Anglo-American capitalism in that it is based on social partnership. It means that trade union enjoy representation through works council and participate in annual rounds wage negotiation that are usually industry- wide. So, there is no crisis between worker and entrepreneur.

The solution is PREVENTATIVE HEALTH CARE!
This country could save literally trillions of dollars in the first year alone if insurance companies created prevantative health care. Meaning you pay WAY lower premiums in exchange for having two physicals every year. That way if something is detected it can be treated early, quickly, and a lot cheaper than treating advanced cases. Besides, there are large numbers of people who pay through the nose for insurance but who never even go to the doctor because there's nothing wrong with them. Why should THEY have to pay outrageous premiums? I say make insurance like auto insurance. Giver "good driver discounts" to those who aren't sick, and focus on PREVENTION instead of spending trillions each year on the cure.

Nurses are for for profit health care b/c that is how they get paid!! think about it.

I'm a respiratory therapist.. I think if health care was not for profit we wouldn't have very many good doctors and nurses around now would we? most ppl become doctors and nurses for the money AND they love what they do... but w/o the money... they'd do something else.

We need more good nurses as it is.

Because most health care providers only care about making a profit! They only care about patients who have insurance or can pay their outrageous fees!

I'm a nurse and have a few things to say. First, show me a nurse who went in to health care for the money???? Same thing with most physicians. Most do what they do because they LOVE what they do. Sure, there are always a few bad apples...

Single-payer system. Heck, that means getting the government involved in administering forms, benefits, billing, provisions, etc. Do you really want the government to do this for you?

To have this done FOR you, your taxes would go up in a big way. But, if that's what you want-and liberals will give you whatever you want- you can have it.

However, I believe in personal responsibility. Your exercising your responsibility to eat right, learn why you shouldn't smoke, allowing you to live with minimal intervention.

Someone said it best; PREVENTION is the key. More people need to learn that THEY can prevent most of the diseases we see in the country; before they "get out of the box" and become chronic conditions.

Nearly 50% of illness is preventable; we need a health-care system with a focus on maintaining health and wellness; NOT with it's current treatment of financially devestating disease.
