How come you can have a Black Nurses association , But not a White nurses association?

But there is no White Nurses Assocation ,I am a nurse and this seems odd to me, I have also worked in other industries and find the same thing.

It's a double standard that isn't going anywhere because of political correctness gone out of control.

Minorities make an association for everything these days. It's their special way of saying "Hehe, look how racist I can be in your face!! What can you do? Really? You can just go about your merry way and define yourself by your actions rather than your color? Hmm...Okay, do that! I'll find a way to turn you into the racist for having the audacity to think human character is what matters!!" Just the way it is.....but I would just start your own association anyway. Its really fun to watch them stumble over their words when they try to defend their racism while calling you racist. Constant source of entertainment.....

ADD: Qwerty...LOL...if you read conceit into my obviously playful spin on reality then you need to lighten up and soften your defensive edge. I am not conceited.....I do, however, believe and have personally witnessed certain individuals involved in these racially divisive organizations, many of whom are the ones who founded the organizations, admitting they did so to prove a point....not to support the needs of their culture. And, for the record, I've actually been to several "black" industry meetings.....the issues brought up were either (1) completely irrelevant to the industry or (2) completely related to the industry and not related at all to culture, the latter of which would have been more productively addressed in a more inclusive environment. Overwhelmingly, the needs and concerns of a black nurse are the same as the needs and concerns of a nurse who is white, Asian, or otherwise. Perhaps a Religious Nurse Organization would make sense, as obviously some religions have beliefs that interfere with the job a nurse might have to do. To have a culturally-based organization in most circumstances is pointless and counter-productive....though I'd be curious to see some examples of culturally-unique concerns a nurse may have. I find these organizations are often divisive without reason.

And...well....many people who are against culturally-divisive ideas....i.e. BET, etc. are against all of them....some are just more prevalent and in-your-face, thus more attention is given. I don't think most people care about BET, at least not the programming itself....I think they would just prefer it be called something else that isn't, by definition, directed at race. How can someone raise their newly born children in this country and try to teach them race is nothing but race, that it does not define you, that you are no different than anyone else except in how you carry yourself......when everything else in this country says otherwise? Black this, Hispanic that, etc. teaches a kid that, to some degree, they are, indeed defined by their race, that they are different. The past is the past.....the future is the future. Let us suppose you gave birth to a completely white child (I know I'm running with imagination here, but follow me).....you love this child, he is your's....you have every intention of ensuring he loves himself. How do you explain BET to him, without telling him he is different, without telling him that often it will be his race that defines him?

We can't very well end racial division when we continue to have children born into our racially divisive society. I just firmly believe if we would be more inclusive of others we would find our concerns, goals, needs, and wants aren't all that much different from everyone else's.

And regarding you taking my thoughts on the matter as conceit.....every day I encounter minorities who think it is about them them them. Everything a white man does is about them them them. Everything anybody does is about oppressing them them them. So....along your train of thought.....why go against one and not all? Why are you implying I am conceited while not also attacking the huge percentage of minorities that are conceited enough to think it is always about them them them.....thus encouraging people to think the way I do? And don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about or that it isn't as prevalent as I've stated (if anything, I'm understating it). It is not my fault society provides so much pathetic material to laugh at.

It's because black people are not treated equal. They are treated better. They get their own EVERYTHING, yet they constantly cry racism.

i agree with the panel unfortunately!

Do you really care or do you just want it because someone else has it?
How pathetic.

Minorities are treated better? Really? Wanna trade places with them? No, didn't think so.

Don't worry white people will be minorities in the US soon. You're already a minority worldwide.
Now you can celebrate.

Because Black nurses are a minority.
They have issues that are unique to their culture.
Because many whites will smile in your face, befriend you even but still have racist feelings toward Blacks in general.
One day just as you think you are getting along, they will tell you..that they think YOU their one Black friend is the ONE exception to their overall racist thoughts about Blacks.

whites deep down prefer their own

Blacks often need their own in order to protect themselves and advance

Whites will discriminate on one hand and at the same time tell Blacks that they don't need the exact same thing (in this case their own organization)
Why?
because it means whites will not be able to run it.

Why don't you just join the "white" nurses association and stop whining?

If Filipino's had an Nurses association would you be complaining?
Are you clamoring to join the Asian Business Association?

Do you whine about not being able to attend the Korean Presbyterian church?

go to the next meeting of the Black nurses association and tell them that your great, great, great grandma was Black and that you are willing to take a DNA test to prove it and authenticate your candidacy for membership!

It is a bit unfair, I must agree. I think that there shouldn't be ANY churches, associations, or programs only for people of a certain color or culture, that's just ignorant.

And how can minorities have organizations like that and complain about segregation?

So start one.

The same reason that there was a plethora of double standards in favor of whites in the past. Leveling the playing field isn't always going to seem fair.

Dixie, how conceited you are to think that these organizations exist to anger whites. What a petty thing for someone to do. Get over yourself.

They exist because of what the Creole lady said. Blacks are a minority and have an entirely different set of cultures and concerns than whites. Surprising? It really shouldn't be.

I find it funny that the same whites who complain about BET and other black organizations never complain about Asian-specific or Latin-specific organizations. How can you be against one and not the others?
