Why can't people accept confirmed bachelors or bachelorettes?

My whole adult life I have been bothered with people asking when am I going to get married? Why aren't you in a relationship. Especially from married people, and mostly women will ask if I'm afraid of commitment. No. I'm not afraid of cats either, I just do not want one. There are some people that are too independent to be in a relationship. That's why I've only been in one. It was OK. I tried it out a couple of years to see what the fuss was about. But, it's not fair to the other if you know you can't be tied down. And you absolutley do not want kids, ever. I like my bohemian lifestyle. I've been a rambler since I left home at 18 nearly 15 years ago. I might settle down when I'm in the nursing home 40-50years from now. It might sound lonely to some, but I like it. Why can't the general populus accept that some prefer not to be in a relationship.

there is always people that are busy bodies and think the only way to live is the way they think you should... tell them "ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies'
you do not have to explain yourself to anyone...it is your life and as long as you are not hurting anyone, be the way you want to be and forget them..............

Because people can't think for themselves. Our society has developed a set of rules everyone must follow and when someone steps outside those lines, it's labeled "not normal". Forget society and be yourself.

not fair

Because most people want safety and a matrimony seems like a good idea to them. And they are so confident in their opinion that they just can't stomach an idea of living without a spouse. You won't change it. But you might change your attitude and not get angry when they are nagging at you.
