I would like to get into the nursing field. how do i go about it ??

i would like to get into nursing and since we are in the process of moving withing the next 6 months, i would like to do it online. the problem is i dont know exactly how to get started and which classes to start out with. i would like to work my way up. there are classes called bachelor of science or masters in nursing and i have no clue which is which and where to even start ! help ! also, how long are these classes and what is the general cost. my husband is air force, but i dont know if they offer assistance to spouses or not. help me get started.

You may qualify for financial assistance through the college you choose. Pell grants and such, their financial aid office can point you in the right direction. Also, fill out a FAFSA form and submit it to the school you choose a.s.a.p. (www.fafsa.ed.gov)

You can start an Associate's Degree program at any community college. This will save with costs, and most of them offer at least a portion of your classes online; and are transferable. Most likely you'll not be able to do the actual nursing classes online, some of them will absolutely require you be in a lab or classroom; you should be able to knock out several core classes (maths, english, etc) and electives out online though.

Stay away from "Internet Colleges" (ashworth college, PCDI, etc) their degrees are a joke, and you'll get laughed out of an interview if you show up expecting a real job with one of their degrees as your source of education. As stated above, if you need online courses, take them from an established college with an actual physical location and good accredidation.

If you're moving in 6 months, I'd recommend just taking a few classes this summer. You can probably still get into some of them at a local community college, during the next 5 week session. You should look for local schools, or schools that are in your destination town and call up someone in their student services and explain your situation.

Before you get into any nursing program, you will need the following courses:
1. Anatomy & Physiology I and II
2. Biology
3. Microbiology
4. Statistics
5. Nutrition
I know there are more, but I can't think of them off hand. I would not recommend doing a nursing program online. I can't see how that could happen anyway, but I think the classroom is the best way to experience learning anyway.
The cost can vary significantly depending on whether you take your program through a community college or university, or if you go through a private school. I know of a private program that costs 32,000. There are scholarships available. I would suggest you check out the johnson and johnson nursing site. If you don't already have a degree, it will take longer.
Good luck.
