Why do you place a neonate on their right side after birth (nursing care)?

this is for the nursing care immediatly following the birth of the child.

left side is best for relieving pressure to the vena cavas. I found out it aids in the closing of the foramen ovale and helps prevent aspiration

Actually lying a baby on the right side would compress the vena cavae more. I believe it is an old practice which is thought to decrease spitting up by helping the stomach (which is on the left) empty. Whether it really helps is anyones guess. We don't do it at our hospital routinely.

It has to do with the superior and inferior veina cava (the major veins in the human body). If the baby is on the right side of their body then it is safer as things can't as easily suppress these.
