If I have PCOS does the chance of infertility increase with age? I want kids but should I do it now?

I am 25 years old, there is a possibility I have PCOS. My LH/FSH came back as 19.7 (lh) and 4.7 (fsh), I have an appointment for the doctor in two days but the nurse informed me that from the LH/FSH results it shows that I am post-menopausal, so I am thinking it most likely is PCOS.

The question I have is, does the risk of never being able to conceive naturally increase with age?... (Like if I leave it alone and do nothing, will I be able to have kids in 6 years?) I heard to make you ovulate you have to start taking the pill (as one option) but I want to have kids for sure at some point in my life.

Should I have the kids or soon? Or am I able to wait 6 years?
(I have not menstrated for 3 months now... and its beginning to scare me)...

I want kids, but I want a career... If the risk is too much to wait, I
would like to have a baby sooner, because I rather have it now, than never...
Any advice? Anyone know how the risk factors increase? How they deal with like me?

Honey, there's a lot of heavy questions there. You should talk further with your Doctor, and then find a counsellor to deal with some of the emotional questions.

After ~28, the chances of a woman conceiving start going down naturally. BUT - in this day, you don't have to conceive to be a mother.

Some questions to ask your Dr, or for you to consider:
With PCOS, can you use fertility treatments or Invitro-Fertilization to get pregnant?
Are you putting a baby at any medical risk if you do become pregnant?

I think what is more important to ask, is are you really ready to start trying for a family? It sounds like you would rather wait, and having that emotional/financial security is a wonderful thing about being a mature mother.

I have a friend who it took 6 years to get pregnant, with no medical reason not to. She's decided to adopt to have a second, is in the process now and will have a new baby in about 6 months, her first will then be nearly three. So there are plenty of options.

I have PCOS - one of the treatments is a diabetes drug called Metformin (Glucophage is the brand name). It seems to regulate hormones and bring back a normal period cycle. It got mine back on track from having no period or one every few months to one every 30 days that I could time like clockwork. It can also tend to make women more fertile - probably because of the regular menstruation. It helped me. You should ask your doctor about it and possibly seek out an endocrinologist. That is who helped me - the gyno said I didn't have enough cysts to have PCOS. The disorder is completely misnamed & misunderstood. My regular physician and the endocrinologist diagnosed me.

I'd relax and not worry so much about kids. They will happen when the time is right.
