Cysts and Fertility???

So i just got my ultrasound results back- i had gone to the doc about lower right side abdominal pain, which was worse during sex. It turns out i have a couple of small cysts on my ovary (or ovaries, im not sure- the nurse on the phone spoke quickly, im expecting a letter from them though). anyways, she mentioned that in the future i may have to visit a fertility specialist because this will make it harder for me to get pregnant (advice straight from the doctor she said). Im worried about this obviously. Im on the pill now, i stopped it for literally 2 months and in those two months is when the sypmtoms started. i got on it right away. so that should help. but still, is it really going to be a difficulty to get pregnant? im about to turn 24 and dont want one now, im about to start a masters program and new career so this is not the time to start trying. anyone have any experiences?

i figure if the cysts are on just one ovary the other one should be working just fine right?

I was 19 when i first discovered that i was expecting a child and found out that i was insulin depenant diabetic. My pregnancy had ended up in a miscarriage. It had taken me quite awhile to get over the loss.

After years of trying for another baby it was then i went to a gyno and it was then i discoved i had polycistic ovary syndrome I was shattered as the thought of never being able to have a child just seemed to be the end for me.

The doctor had told me that when my eggs were released that the sperm was not getting to the eggs as people that have the syndrome have like little brushes that attack the sperm therefore kills the sperm and that is why the sperm cannot meet the egg to be fertised.

When a women ovolates she releases cyst, and women that have t he syndrome the sperm is like the enemy.I had then gone to an IVF clinic and i had my fist IVF and that was successful but ended up in a misscarriage.

Several months later i went back for a second attempt of IVF and i was successful again and i was blessed with 2 babies(they are now 6yrs old)I was told that i could never have a child naturally.I am now married with my 2nd husband and i have a 10mth baby girl which i did concieve naturally.

So just remember if your not ready to have a baby right now and when it is time for a baby their are specialist out their who can help. For me i was told that i would never be able to have children and i now have 3 beautiful healthy children.Good luck all the best.

when i was in 7th grade, my grandma had to take me to the emergency room b/c i was doubled over in pain. turns out, i had a cyst on my ovary or ovaries and that was all they said. im now only 17, but expecting my first child. im 33 weeks and so far the pregnancy has been very normal. no problems or anything. and needless to say, my husband and i had no problem getting pregnant. i would go get a second opinion about the whole fertility thing. Good luck and God bless!

Cysts rupture and can bounce back and forth. In the same week on Monday I had them on one ovary and by Thurs they were cleared and on the OPPOSITE one!

Most likely if 1 has it then the other will too. BC will help with this, but TTC may be hard. Good luck. Its all a waiting game I think.

My sister is in a similar position. It will be harder to get pregnant as you will have to wait for an egg from the working ovary and then catch it at the right time. It will most likely not be impossible though. I know a woman who had cysts on both ovaries and they told her she would never have kids (she had her third child a year or so ago). So they are never really sure. Keep on with your study (and good luck) but just have regular check ups and research on google about healthy diets etc. or see a natrapath, there is some information to suggest food containing hormones etc. can add to the problem, so ask a qualified person to ensure you are keeping it under control as you move on with your career. Then when you are ready - it will all just happen!

I was just recently diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which means I have cysts in/on my ovaries. In this form, cysts are caused by eggs that don't mature properly and then turn into cysts. Because of PCOS, some women do not ovulate, and can have trouble getting pregnant. There is also a greater risk of miscarriage because of problems with the eggs. There are things you can try before fertility drugs, but they are sometimes needed. Of course, this all depends on the type of cysts you have. Good Luck!

I have PCOD(Polycystic Ovarian Disease), which means that instead of eggs, I have cysts.

I was diagnosed when I was 20 years old, on my birthday, with the doctor telling me " Well, you're never going to have children, and Happy Birthday"(she really did say that).

I went the fertility route, took clomid, felt awful and was told by the specialist " Adopt, you'll never have them on your own".

So, I did. I adopted 2 beautiful little boys and was very content. Then in December, I started feeling funny, like I was coming down with the flu. And I could drink chocolate milk by the gallon(I am horribly lactose intolerant). Turns out, the doctors were wrong. I was pregnant! After 10 years of trying, one wild night was all it took.
Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage at the end of January, but it has given me new hope for the future.
No one knows for sure what is going to happen, right now you are in a good place trying to finish school. I know it's a hard thing to process, but never give up hope. And there have been many women who have had cysts and went on to have many children. They say that if you have a problem with cysts, getting pregnant makes the problem disappear.. the trick is you have to get pregnant!!

I'm sorry that this is so long, and I wish you all the best.

they can remove them and put you on hormones and you could be fine :)

I am one who has PCOS and was diagnosed in January 2006. I never took noticed to any symptoms of PCOS until a time when I doubled over in pain and it felt like someone literally stuck a knife through me. I finally made an appointment to see a doctor, did all kinds of exams.Progesterone,Thyroid,Ultrasound and the cause was PCOS and I had cysts on my ovaries. I was a bit concerned because my husband and I are TTC.My doctor put me on clomid to help conceive and metformin for the insulin resistance.
As of this date, I did not conceive and I will be referred to a Endocrinologist to determine what else is hindering our chances to become pregnant. I can not vouch all women will conceive if you have fertility problems as I know some who couldn't due to bad ovaries, uterine cancer, blockage of fallopian tubes, ect.
I hope you will be educated on what could help you out and what treatments you prefer. I chose to be on the fertility meds as I want to have a child. Unfortunately, a friend of mine can not have children because her ovaries are severly beign.

I started getting cysts when I was 15. I had surgery to have one removed when I was 17 because it never burst. I was told that my fertility wouldn't be affected. My cousin also had 1/3 of her left ovary removed because of cyst and she now has 2 beautiful children. I would get a second opinion. TTC takes time! Concentrate on school now and get checked out about 3 months before you decide to try.
