Can you make a good living doing hair and makeup?

I am wanting to go to beauty school just to get a trade to be able to support my 1 year old daughter. I have been going towards going to be a nurse and doing well but its going to take me a while to do. I need to get a trade now that can support us. However, I just was wondering.. can you make a career out of Cosmetology. I love to do hair and make up but everyone keeps saying don't do it.. that noone will respect me cause I do hair and gossip.

First, I think that a majority of the population would agree when i say, that being a cosmotoligist is a respectable job. We need cosmotologist, they make us feel good when we step out the door with a gorgeous new look.
Second, do not be misinformed, that once you get out of beauty school, you can make enough money to support you and your daughter, it takes time to establish clients. Although, you may be able to get in with a spa/resort but be prepared to work long hours to get that nice paycheck. Pick your passion and stay on track whether it is nursing or cosmotology, because what your good at, will eventually pay off in time. I know that you need it now, but there is no quick finacial fix, if there was, we all would be doing it. Good luck to you!

I think you can make a decent living doing anything just based on your looks! I don't want to seem like a slob, but you could make some serious money at a strip club, dancing or doing the dancers hair and makeup!
