Cysts and fertility? |
So i just got my ultrasound results back- i had gone to the doc about lower right side abdominal pain, which was worse during sex. It turns out i have a couple of small cysts on my ovary (or ovaries, im not sure- the nurse on the phone spoke quickly, im expecting a letter from them though). anyways, she mentioned that in the future i may have to visit a fertility specialist because this will make it harder for me to get pregnant (advice straight from the doctor she said). Im worried about this obviously. Im on the pill now, i stopped it for literally 2 months and in those two months is when the sypmtoms started. i got on it right away. so that should help. but still, is it really going to be a difficulty to get pregnant? im about to turn 24 and dont want one now, im about to start a masters program and new career so this is not the time to start trying. anyone have any experiences? It could make getting pregnant more difficult, but that depends on the damage (if there is any). I had a cyst that had to be removed before I had kids. The doc said there was no damage, however, every pregnancy that resulted from an egg off that ovary resulted in a early pregnancy miscarriage (they can tell from ultrasounds which side the egg came from). Both of your ovaries should be producing eggs. They don't take turns as one would expect. I have 3 healthy boys and one baby on the way. All of come from the ovary without the cyst. I don't think you have anything to worry about! Best of luck! I too had cysts - I was 18 - they told me that I had a 5% chance of getting pregnant without fertility drugs. But things change over time - I have two kids - I got pregnant when I tried to get pregnant - without fertility drugs. So don't worry about it until it happens. :) You MAY doesnt mean you MUST....honestly getting ovarian little cysts is quite common in women and they normally just rupture (small) and go away...sometimes they are large and cause problems where they need to be removed, or the ovary needs to be removed but that still leaves one good one...cause you have two...in that case it may make it more difficult to conceive but not impossible by any means..you can still get pregnant...the hormones on the pill or off, will effect the growth rate of some cysts and tumours, some being estrogen dependent..i wouldnt worry too much about it im in teh same situation i found ut i have 2 cysts and im worried about it the gynacolagist said i will need 2 have my gp keep an eye on it and gave me a letter or wat ever they call it 2 give 2 my gp i gave it 2 them straight away its now been a week and i have no clue wats goin on. im only 16 been on the pill bout 5 months cant b gd!! :( For the majority of women, the presence of ovarian cysts has no impact on their ability to conceive. Typically, ovarian cysts remain small and don鈥檛 interfere with ovulation or conception. However, some cysts can indicate underlying conditions, which may inhibit your ability to become pregnant. If you have a lot of cysts, you may have polycystic ovarian syndrome, which can disrupt the normal cycle of ovulation, inhibiting pregnancy. It all depends on your health and make up. When I came off the pill my health when down the tubes - cyst and hormone wise. Because I was on the pill for more than a couple of years, my body forgot how to make hormones on their own...I have to do injections now. It sucks. And I am probably in the middle to the minority....we can't have children. |
