Are firefighters really respected? if so how?

i was having debate. its not an intellectual career.....is it kinda considered blue collar? is it at same reputation level as nurse?

get where im going with this guys......what are your thoughts if your daughter brought home a guy that was firefighter or if your son decided to do such a thing.

?????????

As a Fire Chief (fresh) at time we are not respected as much as you think. some actually are down right rude and insulting, and at times it gets worse then that. we are out there doing our best risking our lives for them, but if something is done that the people aren't in agreeing with we are put down, just like the Doctors we all go through crap that is very unnecessary, as well as people see blinking red beacons and dont get out of the way for us to get by is what gets to me. some one needs help but there are people that just make things worse. so to answer your question we do see some respect but at the same time we see none and it make it hard for us to save a life. or home or years of memories. when i first started out i had the support from friends and family. and that alone goes along way. and i have seen alot since then and even barried one of our greatest guys last week. i would have taken his place in a heart beat. (he died fast of cancer from fighting fires)

sounds cool to me. i respect them.

what are you talking about, firefighters are defintately respected

do you even know what they do? what makes you think they're not respected?

If your daughter brought home a firefighter I'd say: watch out! Those guys are fun, but trouble. Just like police officers in the world of dating.
If you son wanted to be a firefighter, It's a respectable career. Most firefighters have second jobs and make good money. Also their government status keeps them safe, they won't be laid off like an office worker.

I am a firefighter, and I really don't know where you are going with this.

What is wrong for someone to date a firefighter?

Also, I need to correct your statement. "Its not an intellectual career" What do you know about fire protection?

Firefighters have many different levels of education, going from entry level, to paramedic, to bachelors and master degrees. Gaining experience and going through the ranks, and even becoming Fire Chiefs.

It takes a lot of knowledge and experience to be a firefighter.

As far as respect, they have earned it. One day you will be in a jam and need there help and they will be there to help you. Regardless if you respect them or not, they are going to save your butt.

Are you willing to risk your life to save the lives of others?

I'm a little biased, no, it's not an intellectual career, but i am an educated person. it's a 'fun' job that very rewarding. I would say that we are respected because of the good we do for our individual communities, and the fact that we help one another out no matter what jurisdiction. If that makes any sense. I would much rather my daughter be with a fireman than some executive. I think firemen think more about others than themselves. Like I said I'm a little biased though.

Firefigters are cool...when i think of one i think of them like cops....they should be respected if they arnt... i mean how many fires are there each year if there arn any firefigters..who goes in?.....a nurse they arnt first in line doctors are

can u do something without a nurs probably yes
can u call somone else other than a firefighter to put out a fire?...pretty darn hard

definitely well respected. there was a 4 house fire in my neighborhoud tonight. there were 45 firefighters on the scene. they are all heroes simple as that without them how would the fire of stopped????????? how do you figure thats not an intellectual career? 3 or more were injured tonight n went to hospital from tryna to save the baby who died :*( poor kid. i feel so sorry for the families. if your son wanted to become a firefighter definitely let him. its dangerous butttttt he would save lives.

First off, i must claim personal bias. In my opinion even though firefighting may be a bit of blue collar... but I get a large amount of respect when some white collar dude rolls his car or lights his house on fire. :P... Firefighting is an honorable career, I would be honored if my daughter brought home a Firefighter :)

my whole family are firefighters or nurses. my uncle is fire chief of our city. THE MOST RESPECTABLE CAREER IS A FIREFIGHTER,DOCTOR,AND POLICE MAN. more important the the president and more important than any other carrer you could think of. these guys save our lives, save our houses, and save our children without great pay or proper respect. whenever i see a fireman i buy him a beer, or i let him know how much i respect him because without them we would be in serious trouble. think of 9/11 the army didnt go into the twin towers, civilians or people who have millions didnt go into the towers, police and fireman went into the towers risking and sacrificing there lives to save us. HONESTLY HOW CAN YOU NOT RESPECT OUR FIREFIGHTERS AND POLICE MEN?
