How do you know if you should be a nurse???

I am a 27 year old stay at home mom. I dont want to stay here forever, i would eventually like to have a career. i was really touched by the nurses who helped me when i was giving birth, and i thought i might like to do that. The problem is that i am not that great at science. I am confused as to what i want to do .

Have you thought about doing certified nursing assistant? It is basically a 2-4 week training( book and clinical) and you are working aside with the nurses. IT is a lot of hard work, and it isn't for everyone but I would inquire about it.
However, if you want to go for your BS in Nursing. You will need to have a prerequisite in algebra, chemistry, biology and you have to maintain a C or better and pass the nyclex exams. I wouldn't recommend being a LPN as they are overruled by RN's.LPN's are not allowed to draw blood, administer a IV, or give medications. My poor MIL has been a LPN for 24 years and all she does is paper work and move patients.
Think about it..Call some people to think if nursing is your desired choice. It isn't for everyone

I'd just like to warn you, nursing is the single most backstabbingest profession in the whole freaking world! Be careful. Try volunteering at a nursing home or something first. That way you can see if you like it without shelling out the dough for 6 years of school.

Your not going to make any money worth leaving your family unless you at least get your bach. in nursing. There is alot of science and it is hard. Anatomy/physiology, microbiology, etc. Nursing school is like preparing people who want to b doctors and nurses do almost as much if not more. Your GPA has to be and stay at a high level or you can get kicked out and to even get into the progra after taking all the main required course is very difficult average wait itme is two years after applying. It does pay off greatly in the end though and you feel like you have completed the almost impossible!! So if your ready to workhard, stay up late, and take many difficult exams than go ahead, many people will benefit from your eduacation when your able to assist i delivering a baby or themany other opportunities Nurses encounter.

You are starting on a career that requires intensive education--a little
late. As far as nursing: go volunteer
at a hospital as a candy striper...or help
out at a care home. You will find out
fast if you want to do that or not.

Amanda I don't like the tone of most of your answers> Ignore that crap. Sounds like a bunch of nursing home nurses crying to me.

What you dont know or not good at right now is not relevant. What you are willing to learn is. I let the same thoughts keep me out of college for a very long time. When I finally decided that it would be better for me if I was skilled and further educated I entered school. No I did not pass the first time on everything, so what? I stuck to it and learned what I needed to learn.

I would like to comment on mountains comment.

My mom went back to school and got her nursing degree at age 50. and worked 27 years as a rehab nurse. Do Not Ever!!! say someone has waited to late. Your not paying her bills and you are not going to be there for her. She must do what she needs to do.

Was my dad to old to go back and get his GED at age 68?
Was I to old to change careers and get a Bacholors Degree at age 38?

Decide you will be good at science and study hard. Don't defeat your ownself. This is peoples worst mistake. The second worst mistake is taking bad advice..

Best of everything to you,
Ken Kansas City
