Is it possible to join the Navy at my age?

I was considering making a career change from teaching and going into Nursing. I thought going into the Navy would be a great opportunity, but I just turned 31. Is it too hard to get through the Navy's physical requirements if I plan on going in as an officer?

If it helps, I have a Bachelor's degree and teaching credential. Does that make a difference?

No not too late for enlisted. For officer, depends on the program you are going into. You will need to contact an officer recruiter at your local Navy recruiting district for the answers to that question.

Alot will depend on what you bring to the table, with regard to degrees and such.

I am not sure if you would be eligible for an officer nursing program with that degree or not.

What you could do, is enlist, try to get Hospital Corpsman, and then you could apply for the Medical enlisted Commissioning program to become a Navy Nurse.
You would not need to be an HM to apply, but HM is in the medical field which is obviously what you want.

Here is the info on the MECP

The Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP) is a program that allows enlisted sailors in the Navy an opportunity to earn an entry level degree in nursing and be appointed as an officer in the Navy.

To be considered for the program you must meet the minimum requirements and submit an application package to Naval Medical Education and Training Command (NMETC.)

Minimum requirements for Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program
U.S. Citizenship. All rates are eligible

No older than 42 years of age at the time the initial application is due to Naval Medical Education and Training Command (NMETC) in the year the member is applying. (01 OCT )

High School Diploma or GED

A minimum of 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of undergraduate courses accepted for transfer towards a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) by the institution(s) for which you are applying. Courses such as English, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, etc. are desirable

Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

Able to complete all requirements for a BSN within 36 months or less

No history of felony conviction or any record of drug abuse. A driving under the influence (DUI/DWI) violation is disqualifying if within four years of the application deadline

Favorable endorsement from commanding officer

You can enlist. The maximum age anyone can enlist in the Active Navy is 34. If you're going to enlist, its now or never.

I think to go O as a nurse, you would have to have a medical/nursing degree

FIRST you have to get accepted into OCS before entering the Navy as an officer. You would need to be an admin officer or maybe supply because your degree really isn't technical so you would go into one of the two fields I mentioned. Your whole officer package would have to be considered and accepted for you to enter the Navy at all. This includes your OAR exam, physical, recommendations..the works. You don't just decide this is what you want to do and walk on in. For that you better look into the enlisted side of the house. To be a nurse in the Navy you would have to come in as one unless they just happen to have a slot open that they are willing to give to a civilian rather than an active duty enlisted person applying for an officer nursing program. You are not too old yet, but your best bet is to contact a Navy Officer recruiter and see if they think you have a chance at any of it. Good luck.

i do not believe so. i am joining the army, i am 28 which isnt 31 but it's not 18 either. i think you're good. i know the army is 41 or 42 so if the navy doesnt want you the army will
