Whats it like to be a nurse?

hospital , I was thinking of this career and i was wondering if any nurses could tell me what the hours are like , the job itself, duites, etc ...Thanks =] xx

I think that all the nurses are lovely. Than they become Matrons

the hours can be long but if you don't mind making the odd bed and cups of tea, gossipping and flirting with doctors old enough to be your dad its a great job

Damn hard work but enjoyable, your heart must be in it though, no use just applying for the job cos it's not just any old job, it's a way of life and a career.

Think long and hard about it.

it is cool but you dont get paid much

Im not a nurse but i can tell you that it's probably pretty easy being a nurse judging on the state of the hospitals! They dont seem to clear up well to help prevent germs and diseases spreading!!

Im not dissing them as they all do great jobs, but i'm sure more can be done to stop these germs and superbugs like MRSA spreading!

I guess it's kinda like any job - I love it, I hate it, it makes me cry, it keeps me poor, it wears me out,

And I would'nt do anything else.

It's a vocation.

Low Pay & Hard Work. People think you are a wonderful person though.

I was a nurse for 11 years. It is very hard work. You have to work at night, weekends and when other people are on holiday e.g. Christmas, Easter, Summer holidays you have to work. You also have to deal with the horrible stuff like poo, sick, blood etc... You also have to remember that not everybody leaves hospital. Death is a really hard thing to deal with and you also have to consider the relatives of the people that die. The money is not great but the satisfaction you get from the job is incredible. Nursing is a vocation and if you can cope with the bad stuff then the good stuff makes it very worthwhile.
If you are interested in a career in nursing, why don't you contact your nearest hospital and see if you can do some work experience there?
Wishing you all the best and good luck!

I qualify in a 2 months time...Before embarking in the nursing profession i worked in a bank - yeh i know big difference lol but i can honestly say its the best move i have ever made - going into nursing...The hours are long, but the rewards at the end of it compensate for the long hours....Most often its quite fun working in a ward lol - the patter is good lol ......Younger doctors are to be had now days lol roll over the old guys lol i have seen a few handsome men in my 3 years of training lol
