I just want to know how to apply for a cruise ship nurse and what are the requirements for entry level nurses?

i just need some info regarding this type of nursing field and how's the compensation for such a career?

A few at the docs in the ER where I work are cruise docs for Holland America. The nurses they use are experienced ones from the same ER. They do the cruises that leave from Los Angeles area (where they live--otherwise you have to fly to the port of embarkation at your own expense). They only do a few cruises a year as well. This job is not all the fun you may think it is however--they don't get to leave the ship in port! And they are stationed in the infirmary on shifts 24/7. You also have to do several years of the more "boring" cruises to get to choose the better ones (light flight attendants--seniority).

I would call the cruise lines that have cruises that sail from the US ports such as those that do the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii etc. I do know that they use very experienced ER nurses, if that helps.

All of the medical and nursing staff I have ever met during cruises, like almost all of the cruise staff with the exception of some entertainment staff are from outside the US. However, Norwegian Cruise Line does have some ships registered in the US and may use US citizens as staff, I would check with them.

Considering the variety and type conditions which they see, I would think nurses with ER experience would be most suited to their situation.

In my one exposure to the medical facility, when our driver had an accident returning us to the ship, the nurse performed the X-Rays as well as the other nursing and administrative functions. I do know that both of the physicians had been Emergency Room physicians prior to starting with the cruise ship.
