Question for NURSES...How can I become one?? |
I've always thought about going into the nursing field, but was intimidated...Now I just want to DO IT, and finally pursue this career field....So, if anyone has knowledge (particularly NURSES) of what I must do, what steps I should take--I would be so grateful if you could share them with me! Any helpful tips would be welcome.. A nurse must have a college degree in nursing, in fact, you have to have the degree to be licensed, and you have to be licensed to get hired. There are 2 year associate degree programs, but the salary and job opportunities will increase if you get the 4 year bachelor's degree instead. What you need to do is find out which colleges in your area offer the nursing program and then weed out which one has the best program. Typically, you have to have all your basic courses out of the way the enter the nursing program, and you must pass a specific test to be accepted into the program. Talk to the director of the program at whatever school you end up choosing for further info. How old are you? Where do you live? Contact me. (@ luceroydaniela@yahoo.com) It depends where you live. I am a student nurse in England, I am half way through a three year adult nursing diploma. I didnt have any 'health care' qualifications when I left school (such as biology and NVQ in health and social care) so I got a job as a health care assistant in a local hospital to get some valuable experience and make sure I enjoyed nursing and cope with the workload (its very hard work!). I then applied to a local nursing college where after three years I will become a registered nurse. I recommend you do some work in a hospital before applying to a nursing course (even if you just volunteer for a few weeks) just so when you apply for a course and have an interview you can talk about how you understand what nursing involves because you have experienced it, this way the college/uni know you are serious about completing the course and you are more likely to get a place. (i'm talking from experience at my interview-they like to know that u understand what you are letting yourself in for!) I hope this is some help! Good luck and go for it, its an amazing career, i love it! |
