I'm in my forties and I'm struggling with a career choice is that abnormal?

i love working with children , but i also want ot go into nursing aand music honestly i just want a caree where i can live comfortably can any one out ther help me.

This is something everyone struggles with at different times in their lives. I went through this about 5 years ago and I was only 29. I am now happy with my current job so not worried about career changes. However, this is very normal and only you can figure out what you need to do to be happy.

People can give you their opinions, but it won't help you unless you have decided to make a change and just go out and do it.

You can go to Nursing school and help children at the same time. You can combine those two things, and you could also take up some sort of music instrument as your hobby - and maybe find someone you can play with in some small gigs. You could do both things - but have to be creative about it.

I know someone who has their career of choice, but music is their "night" job for fun. They get to do both things they love and they are older than you.

You should become a music therapist. Basically a psychologist, but you play music as a healing process.

We all go through that "Damn, this isn't what I wanted to be when I grew up" thing in our forties. But starting entry level wages is not a great option, so how about tweaking something else in your life. If you are a female, pick up a copy of the magazine MORE - for women over 40. It gives some realistic advice on second careers - and sometimes makes us mortals seem so "under achiever".

Basically what kisk29 said - find a career that involves both children and music, and don't worry about age. If you want a change, make it happen! Just in case we only get one lifetime, we have to do what we love to be happy and fulfilled.
