Help! Does any one else suffer from Eczema? |
I developed eczema when I started my nursing career. I have to wash my hands several times a day and that is how it started. It's only on my hands and they itch all the time...The only thing I have tried is hydrocortisone cream and Gold Bond Ultra Healing Lotion. Even the doctors haven't been much help. Any suggestions? Hi THere try eucerin for the dryness. your just treating the inflammation, and not the dryness. or try to get your hands on anything that has lactic acid in it. it did the trick for me. Excema is usually related to allergies: probably you (like me) are allergic to certain chemicals. I am really sensitive to pretty much any kind of soap/disinfectant/cleaning product. If possible, I would buy my own soap at the hospital and use that instead when there, something hypoallergenic or meant for babies or both. At home, try using vinegar & baking soda for dishwashing and other cleaning projects--works really well, less likely to cause irritation, and cheaper than dishsoap. Also, the doctors should be able to give you an Rx for a stronger kind of hydrocortisone, if they haven't already. I don't know if taking antihistimines would be useful, but ask your doctor! Excema is usually a chronic/recurring condition, but hopefully that is slightly helpful, at least. My 2 favorie remedies for eczema are #1 Aquaphor (it's made by Eucerin). It's totally thick , but it's great to put on right before bed. #2 Lansinoh nipple ointment for nursing moms. I know it sounds freakish, but it is great for eczema, dry cracked skin on hands, elbows, heels, ect., even cracked lips! Try them. Good luck! |
