I have to do about 40 hours of volunteering with a nurse (or Doctor) in a healthcare setting where I am a minority. I am white, middle-class. Many of my friends are going to other countries, but I can't afford that. I live in America and would be willing to travel anywhere in the continental states. I am from Philadelphia/Lancaster PA area, but I attend college in Indiana. Indiana has a very populated Amish community. Ohio and Michigan have a high migrant (seasonal) community. Check with the local health department for locations of migrant camps, Amish midwife information, and contacts for volunteer work. Good for you and Good Luck. Enjoy the experience and education you get from this. There are migrant clinics all over the country - and you'll get a better answer if you tell people where do you live (at least what state). |
