Can you earn a BS or BA by majoring in pre-nursing?

I am really in quite a pickle. I need to know whether i can earn a BS or BA in pre-nursing. I am torn between this or Psychology. I know i can earn either a BS or BA by majoring ing Psychology, however I think that if i took pre-nursing it would help me tremendously in Pre-Med. I dont know what to do, so please help!

(BS or a BA is required in my college in order to enter the Pre-Med Program.)

I want to get into Pre-Med to study medicine but in order to do so, I need to first earn a BS or a BA. I need to know whether i can earn a BS or BA in pre-nursing. I am torn between this or Psychology. I know i can earn either a BS or BA by majoring ing Psychology, however I think that if i took pre-nursing it would help me tremendously in Pre-Med. For regular nursing, go with the BS. If you are planning on doing psychiatric nursing, go with the BA in psychology.

There is no such thing as majoring in pre-nursing. You either major in it or you don't. Perhaps you are confusing this with a pre-nursing prequisite program. That is, you would have to take certain courses (mostly science-oriented) before you are eligible to take nursing courses (which are usually going to be in the last 2 years of your program). Once you're admitted into the nursing program, you then progress to earn your BSN upon completion.

Also, nursing prerequisite coursework generally do not count towards medical school admission prequisities. They are different classes. Med school prerequisite classes are normally going to be tougher, with coursework that is specific to those who are majoring in the field (i.e. organic chemistry for chemistry majors is what you take). Prospective nurses take a watered down organic chemistry lasting only one semester and only semester of watered down gen chemistry. Medical school applications will refuse to accept these classes so you would have to take them over at the appropriate level.

Bottom line, you need to decide if you want to be a nurse or not. Don't waste your time taking classes that wont count. It wont 'help' you either; it will merely make you frustrated and likely to burn out if you have to retake something in the future.
