Is college hard?

I don't mean to sound naive, but i was just wondering from your experiences. In highschool I never had lower than a 3.8 and I am a hard worker!!!!! I was wondering if any of you did good in highschool and then when you went into college, you totally bombed.
I plan on going to UCSD, however I don't know my major yet....maybe nursing, phsycology, or anything involved in the medical field.

Honestly, it depends upon what college you go to, what your major is, and what kind of a worker you are. Whenever I'm not in class, I'm studying or doing work. It's completely normal for me to have multiple papers due each week and to have to write 15, 20, even 30 page papers. Some of my friends have majors where they have a lot of free time on their hands and can party whenever they want. I'm a Public Policy/Economics major and I always have a ton of work due. Not only do I have to complete a lot of reading and writing, but I also have to grasp a lot of math! My boyfriend is a physics major and he finds college fairly hard. Of course college is difficult, but if you are a hard worker and you dedicate yourself to your work, you will succeed. :D

As a rule, no. Because you will have more choice in picking classes. I used to take two hard and two easy classes to balence each other out. I found it much easer than highschool.

There is a lot of reading. You have to keep up with it. If you fall behind you will really be in the soup.

Work really hard your first two years, get the pre-reqs out of the way.

Joe

It probably depends on the school, but I would not say that college is hard, just different than high school. You usually have to do more reading, but the work is not incredibly harder. You also have to be more self-disciplined (the professors are not as concerned about whether you study, the grades you get, or if you come to class). It's nice to have more freedom, but you have to make sure that school work does not fall too far behind having fun (which there is tons of in college!). What's nice is that you will be coming in with a bunch of new freshmen who are also trying to figure out how to make it work, so you can work together to plan study time.

Again, college is a lot of fun!! Best of luck!

uugh,if it were easy wouldnt we all be there???

With a GPA of 3.8, I don't think you will have a lot of problems. You sound like a very hard worker and that's half the battle of going to college.

I was a so, so student in high school and graduated with a 2.8 GPA. It took me 2 tries to finally get my degree. I had to learn to work for what I wanted. Now I have a graduate degree, and I'm in the process of going for more.

It's natural to be nervous about entering a new phase in your life, but you'll be OK.

Well, you picked a great school for entering the medical field. UCSD is one of the top scientific research institutions in the world.
I went to Cal State Fullerton and yes, school is hard, but it is so rewarding. I have a BA in Communications and I loved all the different classes I took, from photojournalism to public relations writing to communications law.
Since you are a student with a high GPA, you should find college challenging in a good way. There is nothing better than studying for weeks on a midterm and the rush you get after the test is over. Not to mention the rush you get from getting an A on said midterm.
I actually did better in college than in high school. Maybe because it was my money on the line or the fact that I got to choose the classes I wanted to attend. Either way, college was a great experience for me and I am always encouraging young people to go to school.

It's not hard, but you've got to be quick paced if your learning and study skills aren't helping. You have to study in college, unlike high school where the teachers just pass you.
