College Courses - 50% or 60% Passing Grade?

I go to college in Canada, and I was wondering why some courses are 50% passing grade and some are 60%? Why is that?

I know for a fact that Nursing program's have 60% and the rest are usually 50%.

Thank you.

It depends on the school, not just on the program. Schools have very different standards for this.

I know of schools that have 55% passing grades in all their majors, as well as some that have 70% passing grades.

At some other schools, you never get a % grade--only a letter grade, and D- is passing.

I think that at schools with higher "passing" grades, there are often also higher average grades, so it's a function of the school's particular curve.

wow, what school is that - i had to get 70% to pass my classes

I had to get a 70% to pass also. I guess some courses are harder than the others, and others have lower expectations. Nurses are expected to work harder for their grade, I suppose.
