I want to study nursing in the bay area (california) but i don't know where.?

i want to know if there is a "fast track" nursing in the bay area (california). i live in concord and im just having a hard time finding one. i know there's a lot in Los Angeles, but i don't want to move there (as i have 3 small kids to drag with me if that's my only option). i wouldn't mind quitting my job and going to school full time. i just to be able to finish in maybe a matter of 2-3 years.

please don't recommend that i go to a community college. it will just take me longer. i haven't finish my ESL courses (god knows how much longer i have to take....).

A lot of you would probably critize me, but please.... i just need information. I heard that I have to finish LVN first before taking RN classes. but i was just wondering if you would know a school that would have RN classes without having the need to take LVN or CNA certification.

I don't know the laws specific to California, but I do not believe that it is necessary there to become an LVN before going for the RN, I do believe you can go straight into an RN program.

If you have no other college degree, there are no fast tracks when it comes to earning your RN degree. It will take a MINIMUM of a 2 year associates degree from a community college (or if there is a 4 year university in your area that offers the associates degree option).

If you really want to be a nurse, you'll do whatever it takes for however long it takes. If you need ESL classes, take them and get it over with. Most people spend at 3 years to get their 2 year degree anyway when you factor in the pre-requisites that are required in biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology, etc.

Many of us put ourselves through school with young children. Sacrifices need to be made. School loans need to be taken out to supplement income since it's impossible to work full time while in a nursing program, etc. Look at it this way, sure, you want it done quickly, but that's not going to happen, so you can either give up the dream and in 5 years still be where you are at, or, make the sacrifices and 5 years from now be an RN.

Here's a list of all schools that offer a RN program in California (not just Bay Area). Start doing the legwork and call these schools and see if they offer the 2 year associates program, find out their admission requirements, and start goal planning.

鈥淔ast tracking鈥?your educations depends on what education you already have. If you already have a BA or BS you can go to Samuel Merritt in Oakland (or satellite in Sacramento). CSUS (in Sacramento has a BA to BSN program that is one year long. My best suggestion is go to the BRN and view the school information http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/programs.sh... Here you will be able to surf more of the requirements.

As for fast tracking your education without a bachelors, I think you are out of luck and have to bite the bullet and go back to school. Western Career College has an RN but I think you have to do a LVN to RN step up. I think the units at Western Career are 鈥渄ead units鈥?which means they are not transferable to a college or university and will have to RETAKE all those courses.

As for LVN or CNA, before RN school, do not worry about. If you are going for you RN don鈥檛 waste your time with LVN (LPT). This isn鈥檛 to say an LVN is not a valued member of the health care team, because there are. But you will end up taking more time to do TWO programs.
