3 semesters of college, working for 6 years, and not happy. Need guidance.? |
Did 3 semesters of college in Graphic Design. You can go to an academic advisor at your college. Doesn't matter if you are currently enrolled or not. Go back for graphic design, computer arts, illustration, or an art degree of some sort .. web design would be beneficial as well. Take a few business classes as well which can help if you decide to break out on your own. You can take an interest inventory, which is probably offered by the career center of a college near you. There are online versions and books that you can buy, but I found that having a real person (usually a graduate student training to be a career counselor) to talk through the results with really helpful. They usually offer aptitude tests as well, so you could go that route or do both. When I did it, about 5 years ago, it wasn't expensive. I didn't go out and find the perfect job immediately or anything like that, but it put me on the path toward what I do now, which I love. I also found doing volunteer work helpful, when I could find something at least similar to what I thought I might want to do. It gave me something close to a real-world experience and helped me narrow down the choices. Good Luck! |
