How do i get into nursing?

I really want to get into nursing, but dont know how or where to get into it, i went to my local college and they didnt help me one bit does anyone have any idea?

One way is to go to University and do a Nursing Degree - part of the course is to spend time on the wards doing some actual university (I spent 8 weeks as a patient in one of the hospitals in Bristol, and at least half of the nursing care was given my University of the West of England Nursing Students).

Another way is to be employed by a Hospital as a Care Assistant - you get to work along aside the qualified Nurses and they will be able to show you how to do simple things. That way you will get the chance to see if you like the work before doing a University Degree.

college first, or uni.....if (harrow college)

There are nursing colleges all over the UK. You just need to type it into a search engine and have a look. You will need a good education standard unless you qualify as a mature student. Usually colleges look for 4 O levels and 2 A levels or you can do an Access Course at college.
Nurse Training is 3 years and is heavily academic, written assignments are frequent and a good pass mark is needed to get through.

look up universities and ask if they do nursing Diploma or Degree courses. it also would go in your favour if you get a little bit of experience being a care assistant for a wee while first as it is very hard work. Another bit of advice when you do start look after your back.

Have you already got enough qualifications to get in to a uni course? If not look at doing an acess to nursing course pretty intense but good place to start from. If you have got qulaifications to get access to uni, then get in touch with UCAS. If you are unsure of what you need to do speak with learn direct?

If you type in "nursing schools or nursing Colleges" you will find several on an internet search. If you know more specifically what state you would like to go to college in, add that state too. You will get a list. Then call the nursing dept at that school and ask them about how you would enroll.

yeah, you need to contact nursing orgs, or a local hospital (talk to the personel dept or nursing supervisors), they would know. also the state nursing board could point you in the right direction.

some of the links are here too, but not all that is available.

try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying.

every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc

heres a link with a HUGE amount of some available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.

Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.

OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.
