While attending college, did you ever find it difficult or scary to change career plans, i think i'm goingnuts |
i have been going to college for almost 3 years now and i thought i knew what i wanted and that was to go into radiology, but now i'm wondering if i really want to go into nursing, i feel like i scared to let go of this radiology dream, but now i'm leaning toward nursing, i feel like its what i really want, but i already applied to radiology schools, is it to late for a change, AM I JUST CRAZY No, you're not crazy. You just aren't in someone else's head to hear all of their doubts, that's all. I would find out if there are any classes you'll need to take to prepare for nursing, and find electives from now until graduation that would fit both paths. Apply to nursing schools along with radiology schools. This will extend the amount of time you have to make your decisions. As for making your decision, if you're really stuck, you can start listing your value criteria (meaning what do you value out of the education) and putting a % weight behind each value criterion. Then rank radiology and nursing against your values using a 1 (least) to 5 (most) scale. Multiply the weights and scores, add them up, and it'll show you what your mind is wrestling with. I know it sounds very clinical (not to mention geeky), but it works. Doing it in excel makes it very simple (and you can hide the weights of the criteria so you don't skew your own evaluation). Yes, it is scary. But don't worry about changing your mind. These moments of fear should not cause a lifetime of an unhappy profession. Remember that it is your life, do with it what you want. I think a lot of people go through a similar experience during college. Just decide what you WANT to do as career, what you would enjoy doing the most and don't worry about anything else like money or someone else's expectations. I sure know what you are going through. I still can't make up my mind if I want to go into nursing or another form of healthcare or even perhaps a criminal justice field. It may be difficult, but not impossible. from the time I was 5 until the end of my junior year of college, I was going to med school, no doubt in my mind. that summer after junior year, I had some doubts. I decided to go into public health instead. It's a pretty scary thing to change your mind, but if you're not truly passionate about your first career choice, you shouldn't do it. Why would you want to be stuck in a career you hate? |
