College Personal Statement Help!!?

3. Open-Ended Question
This question seeks to give students the opportunity to share important aspects of their schooling or their lives 鈥?such as their personal circumstances, family experiences and opportunities that were or were not available at their school or college.

This is the open ended question of the UC personal statement. Im not quite sure what to put here so if someone would be so kind as to give me some ideas. What would you put here? I want to go into nursing so should I discuss the event that led to that? And should I discuss why I want to be a nurse?

That's the beauty of the open-ended UC question. I heard they changed the format this year, but I'm glad they kept the open-ended one. The other question was specific and not everyone can respond to it as easily, so this question allows you to say things that might not have been covered by your application or the other question. Basically, you can write about anything you want--whatever you feel that's important to you. If you feel that nursing is something you can write about then do so. You can write about your personal circumstances. Anything you want that you think the UCs should know. Good luck

Definitely approach the answer with Nursing in mind. Just explain if there any special circumstances in your personal life that make college difficult yet answer how it will reward you in the same sense because you are furthering your interest in the nursing field, a field that I might add is in real need of more people with the increasing numbers of baby boomers. When I transferred to UNC, I based mine on the facts that: I am a military wife in a new state with no family/friends, raising two children and a first generation college student. Talk about difficulties but I also explained how International Studies has been my passion ever since high school when I started making friends with all the exchange students and taking all available languages. And then I threw in info based off what the university could offer me, like the newly built International Student Center, the large Study Abroad department and the wide variety of foreign languages that I could pursue. Good luck.

Right something that will reveal you, the person, rather than simply an applicant among many. I don't know what other questions were asked in the application. You could talk about why you want to be a nurse, but don't say it's because you want to help people. While that may be true, make the answer unique.
