Nursing or Medical Assisting - Administrative Focus Whats the pay difference? |
I am attending college to become a RN. I have found that it will take me 5 years to get my associates degree because of the waiting list for clinicals. I love health care and want a job in that field. Im not sure that nursing my be for me. I love learning and figureing out whats wrong with people but hate hurting people. Haha I dont want to give shots or push i.vs all day. I want someting interactive and less messy. I was looking at becoming a medical assistant but with the administrative degree. How much would they make if they have a associates degree in applied science in med assisting admin.??? MA'a give shots as well but for a lot less income then a registered nurse, literally less then half of what an RN makes. There are other health care fields that don't involve needles but are real professional careers such as radiology tech or respiratory therapy. These are both 2 year degrees and don't involve needles as much as nursing. Resp therapists do draw ABG's which are arterial blood draws and are painful to patients but depending on where you work how often you do them. ICU or ER you'll do more blood work then other areas but the floor therapist does abg's there as well but more random. Rad techs don't have any needle involvement unless they cross train to do cat scans. If your college has such a wait list for clinicals then I would look into other schools. They can't be that professional and offer as good of an education if they are spreading out your education for many more years then required. Hello- I teach a medical assisting program, and the big difference is pay...I think it is worth it to become a registered nurse, because just as with medical assisting, you can go in so many different directions...you could do chart reviews, do administrative work, become a supervisor or nurse manager...etc...do some more research on your career choice, because time is money!!! Good luck...it would have been better if you started MA first maybe, then went on to take the RN course...now-it would be like going backwards...you might as well go for it. |
