Should I really major in Nursing & what should my minor be?

I'm 18 and already I've had so much experience with hospitals and hospices from being a patient, a volunteer, a student, a shadower, or just a visiting family member. My senior year of high school, I took a Health Occupations class where we helped out at our hospital and actually got certified to do some medical things. There were days when I absolutely hated it and couldn't wait until it was time to leave, but there were also days when I loved every minute of it and got to know some very sweet nurses, doctors and patients. I want to do nursing, but sometimes I just wonder if it will really be right for me. I'll be going to college in the spring, so I need to make my mind up. And if I do major in Nursing, what do I minor in?

I also kind of have this thing for fashion in all its aspects whether it be clothing design or interior. I'm just unsure of which path I should follow.

Nursing is a major that you have to be sure of. If in fact you are in doubt, don't take nursing. This is a career you have to go into with a strong ambition. It's something you have to KNOW you want to do. I was also interested in fashion....more for interior design. But my passion is helping people, therefore my major is nursing. Good Luck in your career choice.

if you like it and it makes you happy than yes.....

I will tell you this from experience if your heart is not into nursing don't do it. I guarantee you there will be more bad days than good. And more angry doctors than nice. You have to be able to handle someone spitting at you, attempting to hit you and vulgar language all with a big smile on your face. You work longer than 12 hour shifts because if something goes wrong with your patient it is your responsibility to take charge of the situation. Nursing is a lot more than being a nursing assistant, and when you do become an RN, you will still have the same duties as the nursing assistant (cleaning Pt's if you know what I mean) If you want to be a good nurse that is. I do love nursing, I have been called every name in the book, but I don't care.
