Mom in nursing home what is my financial responsiblities since they had me sign papers so fast? |
I live in Pa. My mom went into hospital for surgery, good to bad, now one month later bed at hospital is needed bed at nursing home available but it had to be that day. I went to nursing home and found myself signing all kinds of papers because they said they needed to do this today or i could lose bed for her. Did I sign anything that makes me responsible for her financially? They said she has a grant and then when that runs out they will come for her home. no husband only child. Is there a way to sell home and keep some profit for college for kids? Or not have them take home? What if she did not have one? Am I going to have to pay for her care which will be forever now? I am so scared I screwed up and signed away my children's future. Please help me quick. Cant sleep. Just happened yesterday 9-27-07 They can and will take you to court for whatever expense's her insurance does not cover, even if you get her medicaid they look back three months, in other words medicaid will ask you to account for all your money that you spent in the last three months, if she does not have medicaid start the application process as soon as possible.I would suggest to you to get an elder care lawyer for advice. If there is any balance due they will come after you. you btetter read things first...i suggest reading it.. Yes, by signing those papers you made yourself financially responsible of her medical expenses once her money runs out, you will get billed. Ask to talk to a social worker where your mom is at. It's free to ask all the questions you want. You can also try going to Social Security. You can check out the link below, this one is for California but I think there's other places. Good luck. |
