Help with Choosing College Major!?

I'm a sophomore in college, currently going for a degree in Biology. I'm transfering schools this semester, still in Bio but wanting to switch into nursing. I was thinking i'd really like nursing b/c i want to do a career that helps people, and i like the idea of doing more of the personal stuff rather than random bio courses that im not interested in (Plants, etc.). most of my courses go into the nursing too so it'd be an easy switch (course-wise.)

But, I really get squeamish with high amts. of blood, and i certainly do not like the idea of having to wipe elderly's butts for them and giving sponge baths (during clinicals.) I'm worried that i'm making the wrong move with my major. Does anyone know what other medical careers i could shoot for, if any? Ive put thought into x-ray tech, but again, i dont like seeing bones sticking out of peopls bodies. If i did Nursing, i was aiming toward a career in like a milder setting (maternity ward, recovery ect. not the ER or OR for example)

Any help/advice would be appreciated!!!

If you're interested in the bio/med stuff and helping people, you could consider nursing, especially like in the areas that you mentioned (you could also include things like pediatrics or something). Dentistry might also be an option. So is veterinary school. You could do the more indirect helping people thing like being a lab technician and just running tests or sticking with biology or going to biomedical engineering or pharmaceuticals or biochemistry and doing medical research. You could also do physical therapy because by then, people's bones have been set and everything like that.

go to Everest

Pharmacy?

What about xray and specialize in ultrasound?

there's always lab technologist.

What about physical therapy or occupational therapy?

Maybe you are trying to pick an area of specialization too soon. I suggest you talk with registered nurses (nurses who have finished al of their training), and find out how soon they picked their area of specialization, what areas of study they found must challenging, and how they decided what they wanted to specialize in.
I cannot think of any career that a person can go into where they will like EVERY area they have to study or work in. But getting across the board training will help you decide what is best for you.
If you do decide to go into nursing, please accept my personal thanks and best wishes for a rewarding career. I don't know what any of us would do without the professional dedication of nurses.

psych NP might be an option if you want to go to grad school. maybe respiratory therapy?

If you're squeamish, though, I don't think the medical field is for you. There are so many other professional options for helping people, like social work. You could switch to a biology minor and it wouldn't all go to waste.

It's not much, but I once considered nuclear medicine. The pay is pretty good (50-80K) and the job outlook is still good (according to the Dept of Labor website). I liked the idea of this field because I was squeamish too and also wanted to do something that was helpful but a bit more hands-off. At the time, nuclear medicine met those needs and I'd get to use cutting edge technology. Just something to consider in case it helps.
