From nursing to radiological tech? |
I'm currently in my second semester of nursing school and I'm not enjoying it at all. My heart is just not in it like it used to be and I'm seriously considering changing my major. I want to have a job in the medical field but just not sure if nursing is it. I'm thinking about going in to radiology. They have a 2 year program at the local community college and I'm thinking about applying for their next semester. Every time I talk to someone about switching career paths, they make it seem like nursing is the ONLY good job in the medical field (NOT SAYING THAT IT ISN'T) and everything else is inferior to it. I guess what I'm asking is if this is a good field to go into? Are the jobs plentiful? Is the pay good? Is it rewarding? Any information/advice would be great. I am not a nurse nor a radiological tech but I do know that one really has to love what they do since they will be working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week (or something like that ;) for several years to come. If you are not happy in the nursing program, I would second your exiting sooner than later. People change majors and careers all of the time. I have heard though that the x-ray tech curriculum is really intense which includes technical physics. Just fyi, if you haven't seen the prereq's and/or core curriculum(s). |
