COLLEGE OR WORk??

I am 25,single mom of two! Should I get a job or go to college? I don't want to be a Dr., lawyer, nurse,or anything like that so would college even be worth my time?Or would get me a job and working my way up be betteR?

While it is certainly possible to get a job without a degree, quite often you can't really move elsewhere. You might be able to work your way up and impress, but if you're ever laid off, you probably won't be able to get another job without starting from the very bottom again. I have worked with two managers who didn't finish college, and while it worked for them, it doesn't necessarily work for most people.

Taking the part-time is tough but might be a good route. Good luck!

I'd try to go to both part time.

I go to a community college full time and work part time. You can take as many classes as you want at a time and the credits stay on your record for a long time. You can start taking a class here and a class there, those credits can come in handy some day!

i think whether to get a liberal arts college education becomes a class thing.

i think that if you went to school you'd find yourself associated with a different group of people--college grads--and because of that more opportunities would open up for you.

not only that, but you would be more attractive in current opportunities, too, because it will be clear that you're a person looking to better herself . . . a quest which should never end.

finally, i think it's an excellent example for your children. show them that education is so important you're willing to make it happen.

that said, definitely find a way to make it happen that's comfortable to you and your family. no one can raise your children better than you, so leaving them to do either work or school is probably not the best solution. perhaps a certificate course in running lab equipment would be more of a benefit RIGHT NOW than a four-year college, which you may be able to get more successfully when your children are in say high school.

my advice would be to find some scholarship and loan money, find inexpensive student housing for families, utilize all your local county and government resources for families, and make some drastic financial cuts to maximize your time with your two children--especially while they're young--and work on setting up your family up for a more financially secure future, whether that means a certificate training or college right now. but i'd absolutely keep the idea that college is out there for you some time if not right this minute.

school is a better bet........working up is not that easy..........
