Should I go to nursing school?

I am currently in my second year at a four year college, but I'm thinking of transfering to another college which offers a BSN program. What are the pros and cons of nursing?
People keep telling me that they can't see me as a nurse. I don't know if they're right or not in thinking I can't handle it.
Are the hours always difficult?
Do you have to deal with a lot of bodilly fluids or would that be someone beneath the nurse?
Do nurses in doctor's offices make the same kind of money?
Please help me make the right decision!

It depends on what area of nursing you'd like to be in re: the hours, money and whether or not you deal with bodily fluids. I was an ICU nurse for a couple of years and I definitely handled MANY body fluids. One of my friends is a nurse in a dermatologist's office, and doesn't deal with as many "bodily fluids". In nursing school, however, you will work in the hospital and you will deal with all kinds of "body fluids" so you'd have to handle it at least for that!

Different hospitals have different hours. I worked 7a-7p, but only 3 shifts a week was full time! Some do 7-3, 3-11 or 11-7 (8 hr shifts). Dr offices will vary, of course. Home health nurses visit patients in their homes, and have some flexibility of their hours.

Nursing is wonderful for the fact that there are so many different areas to work in, (as well as different areas to pursue master's degrees in.) Chances are, if you don't like a particular area, you can find something that works for you.

My suggestion is to find a nurse to shadow. Perhaps you can contact a hospital or dr's office to find out if they have a program available to let you follow a nurse for a couple of house. You could contact the nursing school you're interested in, and find out if they have a program like that - where you could follow a nurse to see if that's what you'd like to do.

If you decide to become a nurse, a major advantage is that because there is such a shortage of nurses, you will always be able to find a job. If you like to travel, you can become a travel nurse and take assignments all across the US.

Good luck with your decision!

As someone who works in the health care field I can tell you that the hours are difficult, the shifts are long, yes of course you deal with all kinds of bodily fluids, you deal with death, angry or sad family members, very stressful situations, disturbing sights, terrible smells... the list goes on.

And take it from the people who know you best... if they think it isnt for you, listen to them.

nurses do everything, including bodily fluids.
nurses in dr.'s offices make as much as the doc wants to pay them.
sorry.

this site may help you it is http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos083.htm

Well , you may be right in some cases. And things do kinda seem to have a run for awhile . Like torn rotator cuffs, (Go figure ) Or Post traumatic stress syndrome . It's almost like the Dr's are trying to make a quota.

What you need to do is get a job in a hospital and see what real nurses do on a shift. Money has little to do with their choice of career. Most nurses are nurses because they are kind caring people that just want to help others. I think someone has told you what nurses earn and now you are interested. Do yourself (and paying back your school loans) a favor and choose another career. You just are nurse material.
